How to Watch the 2023 AFL Season Live

AFL games are split between subscription services and free-to-air TV.

Every match of the 2023 AFL premiership season up until the grand final will be screened live and ad-break-free on Fox Footy, which means you need a subscription to either Foxtel Now, Foxtel iQ, or Kayo Sports.

You can also watch selected matches each round live on free-to-air TV on the 7 Network, but they will contain ads.

Stream AFL Live on Foxtel Now

New customers get a 10-day free trial to Foxtel Now.

Once your free trial is up, Foxtel Now costs $54 a month. That’s because you have to subscribe to the Sport pack to watch AFL, but you will also be able to access entertainment content alongside sport.

Foxtel Now shows every game of the AFL premiership live and ad-break during play up until the grand final. A replay of the big match will be available to users immediately after the final siren.

Foxtel Now is available on various devices, including PC, Mac, iOS, and Android mobiles and tablets, Chromecast, Telstra TV, PlayStation 3 and 4, and selected smart and Android TVs.

There are also a host of magazine shows like AFL360 and On the Couch, pre- and post-match analysis, entertainment programming, panel discussions, and interviews.

Stream AFL Live on Kayo Sports

Kayo can be sampled with a 7-day free trial for new customers.

After your trial, there are 3 price points: $25, $30, and $35 a month for 1, 2, and 3 simultaneous streams, respectively.

The Kayo app delivers live HD streams and works with a wide range of devices, including Macs and PCs, iOS and Android devices, Chromecast, Apple TV, Android TV, Telstra TV, PlayStation 4 and 5, and selected smart TVs.

Kayo also has sport-specific special features, which include SplitView (allowing 4 sports to be watched at once), jump to key moments and match center. It also features the same analysis shows as Foxtel Now. Plus there are Kayo minis which allow you to watch a replay of a game in only a fraction of the time.

Watch AFL on Free-to-air TV

The 7 Network has the rights to screen AFL games on free-to-air broadcast TV. Throughout the season it will generally show games on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights and Sunday afternoons. Depending on the state or territory you’re in and which teams are playing, it could air on the main Channel 7 or multichannel 7mate.

The 7 Network only shows AFL games live on TV, it doesn’t show them on their streaming service 7plus. So this might be perfect if you’re a casual AFL viewer, but if you’re a fan of a particular team, the only way to see them week-in, week-out is with a subscription to Foxtel or Kayo.

We have a guide to the 2023 AFL draw so you can find out where to watch your team throughout the season. Channel 7 does have the advantage of being the only place to screen the AFL grand final live though.

While Channel 7 screens games, it has reduced its secondary AFL content in 2023, with The Front Bar the only panel show that talks about AFL. But it’s more of a light entertainment show and 7 doesn’t have a dedicated analysis show for AFL.

Watch AFL on Foxtel iQ

If you want to watch the AFL through a set-top box via your television instead of streaming, you can do so via Foxtel iQ. It too will screen all the AFL season live in 2023 before the grand final.

To watch the AFL and any sport on Foxtel iQ, you need the Sports HD pack. This costs $74 a month and doesn’t come with a free trial. Even though you can watch the AFL via the set-top box, Foxtel iQ also comes with an option to stream it on your laptop or mobile device with the Foxtel GO app, which is available for free to Foxtel iQ subscribers.

Like Foxtel Now, Foxtel iQ also comes with entertainment options alongside sports. For the 2023 season, you can watch every round of the AFL Premiership season in 4K ultra HD on Foxtel iQ.

Watch the 2023 AFL Season From Outside Australia

If you’re outside Australia when the 2023 AFL season is on, you can still stream the matches live or on-demand with Watch AFL. The platform is only available outside of Australia and comes with 3 subscription options.

A weekly pass costs $24, a monthly subscription is $44 and a membership for an entire year is available for $229.

You can watch on your laptop or download the app to your mobile device. Watch AFL is also compatible with Chromecast, AirPlay, and Apple TV.
