In 1998, Mayweather won his first world title the WBC Super Featherweight. He won the title by defeating Genaro Hernández The Ringworld number 1 ranked super featherweight. After lost against Mayweather, Hernández said, “He defeated me, he is quick, smart and I always knew he had the speed. I give him respect. He is a true champ”. In 1996, Mayweather becomes the first US Olympian to win a world title.

In 1998, Mayweather was ranked number 8 in the pound-for-pound best boxer in the world by the Ring. He continuously dominated the featherweight division and defend his title three times. The second was against Carlos Rios, Mayweather win the game by anonymous decision. And the third time, Justin Juuko, he is was won by knockout.

In early 2000, Mayweather starting to having a bad relationship with his father. Though they never spoke about it. At that time Mayweather fired his father as his manager job and replace him with James Prince. This got worse, in 2004, Mayweather took the trainer job from his father. On that event, Mayweather said that “In a 2004 interview Mayweather said that although he loves his father, he had a better chemistry with Roger because his father had put too much pressure on him to be perfect”.
