A backboard is an integral part of playing basketball at professional or recreational levels. In most cases, people install it during the event or season and uninstall it when the season is off. Moreover, you may need to replace the old or broken backboard with the new one.
However, installing an NBA-regulated 6 feet wide and 3.5 feet tall backboard isn’t easy unless you know the proper ways. Though the installation instructions are similar for all backboards, the steps can vary based on dimension, quality, and types of backboards.
Don’t worry! I will make the basketball backboard mounting job easier with my experience. So, let’s learn all about installing a backboard to an in-ground basketball pole.

Installing a Basketball Backboard: A Step-by-Step Tutorial
Installing a basketball backboard is a technical and laborious job requiring sophisticated instructions. Otherwise, it can be a flunk task with the loss of effort and time. So, go through the following simple steps to prepare the backboard for throwing a ball.
Step 1: Fix the basketball pole first where you want to mount the backboard.
Step 2: If you will replace the older one, remove it from the pole at the beginning of the installation process. On the other hand, if it is entirely a new setup, unbox the backboard for installation.
Step 3: Assemble the mounting bracket to the pole using nuts, U-bolts, and washers. Don’t forget to connect jack support brackets with washers, nuts, and bolts to the pole bracket.
Step 4: Attach the jack support bracket to the hope of the pole and place the bracket on a flat surface for more safety. It also requires some nuts, bolts, and washers.
Step 5: Now, you must attach elevator tubes to the jack support brackets with nuts, bolts, washers, and spacers. Don’t forget to connect the height decal to the screw jack while pulling up the hoop. You must align the lower end of the height decal with the screw jack’s bottom side.
Step 6: Let’s put the cover over the screw jack and place the spacer inside the assembly. Install screw jack assembly and tighten all nuts, bolts, and screws properly.
Step 7: Though the user manual indicates attaching the rim to the backboard in this particular step, I recommend attaching the backboard to the ‘Y’ bracket assembly for a while. Use some bolts of the old backboard to hold for a moment.
Step 8: Finish the job by attaching the basketball hoop rim to the total system to make the big lift easier. Here, rim adjustment is easier after installing the backboard.
Step 9: Let’s have a close look at all nuts, bolts, screws, and parts to see whether they are placed properly and tightened with no issues. Finally, it is time to shoot the ball on the backboard.
