Dana White slams Tyron Woodley

UFC President Dana White has slammed former welterweight champion and ex-UFC fighter, Tyron Woodley, for taking up a boxing fight against Jake Paul despite struggling in the mixed martial arts.

Woodley, who has a 19-7 win-loss record in his pro-MMA career, will take on YouTuber Jake Paul on August 28. The beef between both was ignited during the Ben Askren vs Jake Paul showdown where Paul and his team were seen involved in a verbal spat with Woodley.

Woodley was cornering his friend and former UFC colleague, Ben Askren.

In a recent interview, Dana White scoffed at the match-up. He said: “Woodley is [39] years old, okay? He hasn’t won a fight in three years in something he’s actually supposed to be good at!”

“Now he’s going to box? How do you sell that fight? Lots of other things other than [stuff] that matters. Jake Paul will say mean things about me!”

The 39-year-old MMA star has had a roller coaster journey with the UFC. After winning the welterweight strap in 2018 against Darren Till, his career nosedived. The Chosen One went on to lose four fights in a row, which drove the organisation to axe him.

When it comes to boxing, he has never boxed professionally so the exhibition bout against Jake Paul is literally his maiden entrance into the boxing ring.

Nonetheless, he is by far the toughest opponent for Jake Paul since his striking ability can hand Paul his first loss in professional boxing.

Dana White has always been against YouTube boxing so it is unlikely to see any active UFC fighter take on Paul in near future. But Paul keeps enticing him and other big names in the MMA fraternity for a fight.

After Jake’s fight against Woodley was confirmed, he took this moment to take a jibe at the UFC boss.

“Maybe this time [UFC president] Dana White will actually be a man and put his money on his former champion instead of trying to undermine my success like a jealous ex. Influencer vs MMA: let’s get it on. It’s showtime,” Jake Paul remarked.

He added:“… I am excited to knock the first one off the list by challenging myself against a five-time UFC champion known for his knockout power. Tyron’s a seasoned striker who has fought the best in the world. I certainly respect his career, but I will be sending Tyron into a permanent siesta on August 28.”

The YouTuber stands at 3-0 after knocking out Askren with a first-round TKO in April 2021. Deji Olatunji (ComedyShortsGamer) and former NBA star Nate Robinson were the first two men to be defeated by Paul.

As for Woodley, despite nearing his 40th birthday, he is still in great shape despite being past his prime.
