It’s been a common scenario for the NBA players to join the boxing rings these days. This time, Deron Williams has written his name on the list. He is going to fight under Jack Paul and Tommy Fury undercard. He is a two-time Olympic gold medalist for Team USA and a three-time all-star. According to Shams Charania, NFL Hall Of Fame Fran Gore maybe his opponent.
Charania said, “NBA-Boxing world crossover, per sources: Former All-Star and two-time Olympic Gold Medalist Deron Williams will fight on the Jake Paul vs Tommy Fury undercard bout on Dec. 18. Frank Gore — third on the NFL’s all-time rushing yards list — is a potential opponent for Williams.”
Deron Williams has been interested in boxing for a long time. He is a co-owner of Fortis MMA in Dallas. This isn’t the first time he is entering the ring. According to Athletic, Williams won the state title in 67 and 112 pounds before he entered high school. He became the No. 3 pick in the 2005 NBA Draft and lead Illini to the national championship.
Williams played for the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2017 last time in the NBA. He played for Dallas Mavericks before signing to the Cavs. UFC fighter Ryan Spann said, “whooped my ass one day. I’m dead serious. You can call him and ask him,”
As per Charania, Gore will be the opponent of Williams’. He is one of the toughest running back of the NFL all-time.
Last time, Gore played for the New York Jets in the 2020 NFL season. He ranked in 3rd with 3735 yards all-time in his career. He remains a free agent and hasn’t participated in the NFL till week 9. Many teams showed interest in picking him for their team, but Gore is focusing on boxing this time. Throughout his boxing career, Gore used boxing as a training method.
The fight between Paul and Fury was announced on October 29. The tickets will be available from November 10 in Amalie Arena. Fans are eagerly waiting to see how Williams performs in the ring.
