The two teenagers were killed on New Year’s Eve when an officer collided with their car while pursuing a suspect in a home invasion at a high rate of speed.

Maggie’s brother Liam Dunn was also in the vehicle when it crashed and is currently in critical condition.

Officer David Cauthron Arrested After Car Crash Kills

In pursuit of Tyquel Zanders, 24, the 42-year-old Addis Police officer David Cauthron allegedly ran a red light and struck the car carrying the teenagers, according to The Advocate.

As reported by the outlet, Zanders was arrested after his car stalled and was later charged with home invasion, vehicle theft, and aggravated flight. According to KKTV, he also has manslaughter charges pending against him.

According to KKTV, 42-year-old Cauthron was arrested on Sunday and charged with two counts of negligent homicide and one count of careless injury. The suspect, Tyquel Zanders, was being pursued by the officer after allegedly stealing a relative’s car.

Additionally, sources told WBRZ that Cauthron did not use his brakes before colliding with the vehicle the girls and Liam were riding in.

Where Is Officer David Cauthron Now?

It’s unclear whether the suspects have hired lawyers or entered pleas.

Cauthron, who has been with the Police force for less than a year after working for a state sheriff’s office, was attacked by Eighteenth Judicial District Attorney Tony Clayton. According to Clayton, there are many unanswered questions about the officer’s speed and general negligence, and the public can be sure that the facts will be followed.

Maggie’s sister, Tori Hill, and her mother, Erin Martin, both work at Brusly High School, according to a statement from principal Walt Lemoine that was distributed to students and faculty and shared on social media. Caroline’s older sister attends Brusly High as a senior and has younger siblings enrolled there.
