Kharge completed his schooling at Nutan Vidyalaya in Gulbarga. He then went on to complete a Bachelor’s degree at the Government College, Gulbarga as well as a law degree from Seth Shankarlal Law College, Gulbarga.

Kharge began his legal career as a junior in Justice Shivraj Patil’s office.

He fought labor union cases during this period of his legal career.

Radhabai is Mallikarjun Kharge’s wife. They were married on May 13, 1968. Kharge is the proud father of three children: two daughters and one son.

Kharge practices Buddhism. As the chairman and founder of the Siddharth Vihar Trust, he erected the Buddha Vihar in Gulbarga.

Political Career

Mallikarjun Kharge began his political career in student union leadership while he was at the College.

He was elected the General Secretary for the College Student Body. In 1969, he was appointed legal advisor to MSK Mills Employees Union.

Kharge was also a prominent labor union leader in Samyukta Majdoor Sangha and led many agitations for labor rights.

Mallikarjun Kharge joined Indian National Congress in 1969. He also became President of the Gulbarga City Congress Committee.
