For the last few days, the rumor spread all the over cricket world that Lasith Malinga is rejoining with team Sri Lanka. Although not as a player anymore, in some other role. The news created so many talks and hype in all news and social media. Everyone wanted to see Malinga with team Sri Lanka once again.

And finally, the Sri Lankan cricket board said their decision that Malinga is returning to the team. This former pacer will play the role of bowling strategy coach for the Sri Lanka international team. He got appointed in that position by SLC for the upcoming 5days T-20 match against Australia.

Malinga retire from international cricket officially last year in September, his last game was T-20. When he retired, he was the highest right-hander wicket-taker in that edition. Now the place own by the Bangladeshi superstar Sakib Al Hasan.

When the SLC board was asked what will be the role of Malinga in the Sri Lanka team, they answered, Malinga will help Sri Lankan bowlers and will provide “tactical insight and technical expertise to help the on-field execution of strategic plans.

If we put that in simple words, it means that Malinga will be more of a consultant for the Sri Lankan bowling player than help them directly.

So, Lasith Malinga is going to be the bowling adviser for his team. This responsibility is not new t him. Before going to retirement, Malinga was the bowling adviser of Mumbai India in IPL, which was in 2018. All his teammates said later that Malinga helped them a lot to learn more about bowling. That year Malinga was unsold in the IPL auction. Though he returned as the player next year.

Malinga is very much excited about his rejoining with the national team. After getting appointed for the post Malinga said, “We have some very talented young bowlers and I am very excited about the opportunity to share my experience and knowledge to help them develop.”

Spain, Italy, and United States among qualifiers

For now, Malinga doesn’t get the position permanently. But if he could manage his job well then we maybe see him permanently in Sri Lanka national team in an even more senior posting.

Return of Sri Lanka’s Player from Punishment:

Like the last series with Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka’s main coach will be Rumesh Ratnayake. After leaving Mickey Arthur, SLC didn’t give that job permanently to anyone. They are still looking for the best fit for the position. Though, Ratnayake won’t be going with the team cause he is in isolation for being covid-19 positive. Hopefully, he will join the team before the first match.

In that series, Danushka and Kusal will return from their punishment and join the team. Last year, in the journey of Durham, England they broke the rules of isolation. That’s why they were banned from crickets. Niroshan Dickwella was also banned for the same cause. Though they got themselves out of that situation in less than a year. Kusal made his return game against Zimbabwe, he is also going to Australia. But Dickwella doesn’t get a seat yet.
