Argentina overcame Mexico 2-0 in the Lusail Stadium, keeping their hopes of qualifying alive despite a less-than-memorable performance. After a first half in which neither team scored, Messi once again was the game-changer. After giving the Albiceleste the lead with a goal from 25 yards out in the middle of the second half, he turned provider 23 minutes later by setting up Fernandez for a magnificent second. Mexico played hard, but they lacked talent in the final third, and as a result, they are now in last place in their group while Argentina moves up to second.
- 64 Minutes of 2nd Half – Lionel Messi finally breaks the deadlock, assisted by Di Maria. Messi’s late-game heroics were crucial, as he found the bottom corner from 25 yards out with a swarm of defenders in his way. Messi saves Argentina again.
- 87 Minutes of 2nd Half – Enzo Fernandez scores, Lionel Messi assists. Amazing goal by Fernandez, who takes a pass from Messi off a short corner, dribbles past Gutierrez with a couple of stepovers, and then fires a curling shot into the top corner!
