Real Madrid have roped in Carlos Ancelotti for a second spell at the club after Zinedine Zidane parted ways with Los Blancos following a trophyless season.

Ancelotti’s first stint with the La Liga juggernauts was full of glory. He anchored Los Blancos to a thrilling UEFA Champions League win against Atletic Madrid, bagging Copa del Rey, Uefa Super Cup, and Club World Cup glory the same year.

But he was let go in 2015 after ending the season without a major trophy. He became the manager at Bayern Munich and then Serie A side Napoli before Everton roped him in to steady their ship.

The Italian manager confirmed leaving Everton for Real with immediate effect, in a social media post.

The 2021 campaign was his second season with the Premier League side.

The Italian manager was impressive in this maiden season with the PL side after taking over from Marco Silva. However, his second campaign ended disappointingly as the club failed to qualify for the European competition.

In a recent interview on the Everton website, Ancelotti thanked the board of directors, the players, and the club fans for the tremendous support during his time at the club.

He said: “I have complete respect for everyone associated with Everton and hope they can achieve the exciting opportunities they have in front of them. While I have enjoyed being at Everton I have been presented with an unexpected opportunity which I believe is the right move for me and my family at this time.”

A statement from Goodison Park said that the club is now on the look for a new manager immediately. “Everton would like to place on record its thanks to Carlo for his service to the club over the past 18 months,” the club statement added.

Everton fans bash Ancelotti

The departure of Carlos Ancelotti has irked several Evertonians, who claim that he has abandoned the club in hard times.

Commenting on Ancelotti’s Twitter post, one social media user named Liam Merrick wrote: “Don’t even bother Carlo. you’ve hurt us. why talk up the future at the club? why bother? we are screwed. royally screwed. I need to stop watching football for my health. perpetual pain, lies, corruption, bias. what’s the point? a new challenge? give me a break.”

Another fan said that the way he ended his Everton stint has been disappointing. The fan added that Ancelotti “sold them a lie” and left the club when he had the chance to win them some silverware.

Was Ancelotti the second option for Real?

According to some news reports, Antonio Conte, who recently left Inter Milan, was the first option for Los Blancos.

But the management then decided to give Ancelotti the shot as he has had great success with the club in the past. The Italian coach reportedly took a pay cut to have a second stint in Spain.
