Brazil’s Potential Opponents in Round of 16

Neymar Jr. and co. are among the hot favorites in the World Cup 2022, Qatar. We all like to think positively about our favorite teams. Maybe you are thinking about the potential opponents of Brazil in the Qatar World Cup 2022. So here we are to analyze Brazil’s potential road to the final, should they advance.

Brazil’s World Cup brackets involve the groups E, F, G, and H till the quarter-finals. So, they cannot face any team from groups A, B, C, and D before semi-finals.

The Group G winners will play the runners-up of Group H in the Round of 16, and the Group G runners-up will play the Group H winners. Hence, G1 vs H2,  and G2 vs H1 in the Round of 16 knockout stage.

Tite’s side are currently the no. 1 team in the world, according to FIFA rankings. Their unbeaten CONMEBOL qualifiers campaign proves their strength, balance, and chemistry between the  players. Moreover, with Neymar Jr. and Vinicius Jr. on the side, they are favorites to be the Group G winners (G1).

Serbia and Switzerland in the Group G along with Brazil, makes it one the toughest groups in this year’s World Cup. Brazil will face difficult challenges in the form of Serbia and Switzerland in the group stage. Xherdan Shaqiri’s Switzerland has directly qualified for the World Cup 2022 after pushing Italy into the playoffs, which eventually knocked them out. Serbia is yet another promising team from Europe, qualifying directly for the World Cup 2022, ahead of Portugal in their group.

We predict Serbia and Switzerland will battle for the 2nd spot in Group G, with Serbia claiming the runners-up spot (G2).

Now, the Group G winners and runners-up will face the runners-up and winners of Group H, respectively. So, Group G’s Round of 16 ties will depend on Group H.

  • G1 vs. H2, and G2 vs. H1.

Group H consists of Portugal, Ghana, Uruguay, and Korea Republic. Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal is the hot favorite to top the Group H (H1). For the H2 position, we pick Luiz Suarez’s Uruguay.

So, here’s how the Round of 16 opponent for Brazil looks like, should they qualify according to our picks.

Match No. Match
54 G1 (Brazil) vs. H2 (Uruguay)
56 G2 (Serbia) vs. H1 (Portugal)

If Brazil slips and finishes second in Group G, there will be a strong possibility of Brazil vs. Portugal in the Round of 16. Again, we will see Brazil vs. Portugal if Brazil tops group G, and Portugal slips for H2. However, we predict Brazil will play either Portugal or Uruguay in the Round of 16 of the World Cup 2022, should they qualify according to our picks.

Brazil’s Potential Opponents Quarter-Finals and Semi-Finals

Now, we will pick from too far ahead of time. Let’s analyze the brackets and find Brazil’s potential opponents in the World Cup.

Brazil’s quarter-finals tie will be among the following brackets.

  • Match no. 53 (E1 vs F2) vs. Match no. 54 (G1 vs H2)
  • Match no. 55 (E2 vs F1) vs. Match no. 56 (G2 vs H1)

If Brazil wins in match no. 54 (G1 vs. H2), then they will face the winners of match no. 53. Now, the match no. 53 (E1 vs. F2) depends on Groups E and F.

From group E, our picks are Spain (E1), and Germany (E2). Our picks from Group F are Belgium (F1), and Croatia (F2). So, match no. 53 should be E1 (Spain) vs. F2 (Croatia).

  • Brazil’s Probable Quarter-Finals Tie: Winners of 53 vs. Winners of 54, which should be Spain Brazil, according to our picks. Again, the tie can turn out to be Germany vs. Brazil if Germany finishes E1 in the Group.

So, if Brazil wins in match no. 54, and Spain/Germany beats Croatia in match no. 53, then Brazil will face Spain/Germany in the Quarter-Finals.

However, if Brazil finishes second in the group as G2, and beats Portugal to play in the quarter-finals, they could meet Belgium/Spain/Germany potentially, in the quarter-finals.

Hence, in either ways, if Brazil goes through to the quarter-finals, their probable opponents should be Spain, Germany, or Belgium, should they all qualify according to our picks.

  • However, the World Cup brackets certainly confirm that Brazil will not face anyone from groups A, B, C, and D, including Argentina, Netherlands, England, and France before Semi-Finals.

So, Brazil can face any team among Argentina, Netherlands, England, and France in the semi-finals.
