Manchester United was beaten by Watford for 1-4 at Vicarage Road. Significantly, despite having a pitiful defeat to Liverpool ahead of this season, Solskjaer had the consent of the owners. The international break was expected to bring some change, but it become worst for both Solskjaer and Manchester United.

The fall at Watford was the fourth defeat in five league games for United who have scored 15 goals in that span and are in seventh place with 17 points.

United has completed their last season with 2nd position. Then they were preferred by Jadon Sancho, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Raphael Varane at the summer transfer window because of an agreement expansion that kept Solskjaer at the league until 2024.

Hence, Michael Carrick is going to take responsibility for the team until the next interim manager appointment. United said that “Michael Carrick will now take charge of the team for forthcoming games, while the club looks to appoint an interim manager to the end of the season.”

Here, you will get to know about the reasons for stepping back of Solskjaer and the statements of United and Solskjaer. So, Let’s get into it.

Why did Manchester United sack Ole Gunnar Solskjaer?

Primarily it happened probably for the last defeat of United. But according to the report of British media, this decision was put up with after an emergency board conference. That conference was held on Saturday. Then on Sunday, Manchester United has announced it officially. It shows an indication that it might be a reciprocal decision between United and Solskjaer.

United said in a statement that, “Ole will always be a legend at Manchester United and it is with regret that we have reached this difficult decision. While the past few weeks have been disappointing, they should not obscure all the work he has done over the past three years to rebuild the foundations for long-term success.”

It is clear that till the last moment United was grateful to Solskjaer. As per their statements, it was also a tough decision to take. United added, “Ole leaves with our sincerest thanks for his tireless efforts as Manager and our very best wishes for the future. His place in the club’s history will always be secure, not just for his story as a player, but as a great man and a Manager who gave us many great moments. He will forever be welcome back at Old Trafford as part of the Manchester United family.”

However, after the defeat, Solskjaer appeared to apologize to the fans and he said, ” I always have belief in myself but of course at the moment it is a difficult time for us. I can see, and I trust that all the players and staff give all that they have but the results are difficult. But I believe I can turn this around.”
