Why Chelsea's Transfer Announcement For Joao Felix Was Deleted

Chelsea’s transfer announcement for Joao Felix on the 11th of January 2023 had to be removed since it was embarrassingly incorrect.

Joao Felix join Chelsea from Atletico Madrid

The 23-year-old Atletico Madrid player joined the Blues on loan through the conclusion of the current season, the club confirmed on Wednesday.

Chelsea moved to sign Felix because they were in urgent need of a top-tier attacker. The Blues have had a dreadful season in front of goal, scoring 20 goals in just 17 Premier League games, the fewest in the top half of the standings.

This has contributed to Chelsea’s dismal season thus far, as they are currently 10th in the Premier League and in danger of missing out on Champions League qualification.

Their recent 4-0 thrashing by Manchester City is just one of their six losses in their last nine games overall, which has put the former Brighton manager Graham Potter under a lot of pressure. He will undoubtedly be hoping that Felix, the new addition, can get started right away.

The Blues proudly revealed their new player, a 23-year-old on loan from Atletico Madrid through the end of the current campaign.

However, Chelsea made a linguistic error in their joy over the deal’s confirmation.

After posting the initial announcement online, supporters discovered a mistake that forced Chelsea’s official Twitter account to erase the original message and rewrite it.

They uploaded welcomed “the artist” to Stamford Bridge and the announcement featured Felix for the first time wearing a blue shirt.

They added the hashtag “#HolaFelix” to it.

Although Felix is Portuguese and they don’t understand the language of their neighboring country, “Hola” means “hello” in Spanish.

Chelsea should have omitted the “H,” as “Olá” is the Portuguese word for “hello.”

Fans saw the error, one of whom commented: “You dummies, he’s Portuguese, not Spanish. That hashtag, what is it?”

After a little moment, the mistake was apparent: “‘Hola’ is Spanish, Joao Felix is Portuguese…”

Felix joins Graham Potter’s team for £10 million on a loan basis, there is no provision in the agreement for Chelsea to make the move permanent.

The player’s term at Atletico Madrid has been extended by another year, and it now runs until the 2027 La Liga season.

This month, the former Benfica player reportedly turned down offers from both Arsenal and Manchester United in favour of the West Londoners.

The 131 outings for the Spanish powerhouses by the 28-time Portugal international helped them win the La Liga championship in the 2020 – 2021 season.

Things began to go awry for the youngster this term, though, when his bond with manager Diego Simeone became irreparably damaged.

Felix is attempting to revive his career following a difficult year playing for Diego Simeone, in which he only started 44% of league games.

Despite spending a staggering £112 million to join Atletico in 2019, he has only scored 34 goals in 131 games, falling short of his potential.

Felix expressed his excitement about joining Chelsea by stating, “Chelsea is one of the greatest teams in the world.
