Also known as the British Open, this truly open competition to become the champion will start from 14th July to 17th July. The Field Size will be 136 players with 70 players making the cut after Round 2. These players include the top 50 golfers in the Official World Golf Rankings. The golfers will play for the Claret Jug as well as the highest payday in history for the Open Championship 2022.
British Open 2022 Total Purse:
The 150th British Open total purse is announced to be the highest in its glorious history. The total purse is a whopping $14m which is 22 percent more than the previous edition. It will be 60 percent more than in 2016. The winner will take away a lucrative $2.5m.
Martin Slumbers, chief executive of the R&A, said, “There have been significant changes in prize money over the last year. We have made this substantial investment while balancing our wider commitments to developing golf at all levels around the world and to continuing to elevate the AIG Women’s Open.”
The rise of the purses for the major golf events is noticeable throughout the year. It may be influenced by the LIV Golf, the Saudi-backed league which is juicing huge paydays.
