After the excitement of last week’s BMW PGA Championship, the DP World Tour heads to Rome for the Italian Open 2022. It takes place from 15-18 Sept. at Marco Simone Golf Club, the venue for the 2023 Ryder Cup. Tournament Preview and Field

The field of the competition is headlined by World No. 2 Rory McIlory. After finishing last week’s BMW PGA Championship as the runner-up, Rory McIlory comes to the Marco Simone Golf Club for the first time to gain experience before next year’s Ryder Cup.

The field includes world no. 10 Viktor Hovland, US Open champion Matt Fitzpatrick, and world no. 28 Tyrell Hatton.

Nicolai Hojgaard won the competition last year with a shot ahead of Tommy Fleetwood and Adrian Meronk. Hojgaard will be here to defend his title. Meronk is also in the field, but Fleetwood misses out.

The defending champion Nicolai Hojgaard will also compete against his sibling Rasmus, who won last year’s Omega European Masters. Fans will also see Matt Fitzpatrick’s sibling Alex.

It will be a 72-hole competition, a cut after 36 holes. The First Round will go underway on Thursday, 15 Sept.

Course

The Italian Open 2022 will take place at Marco Simone Golf and Country Club. It’s only 10 miles away from Rome, Italy.

The course will also host the 2023 Ryder Cup. The track stretches out to 7268 yards.

Italian Open Golf Purse in 2022

The golfers will compete for the €3m total prize pool. There will be a cut after the first two rounds (36 holes), and the golfers making the cut will be on payday.

The winner’s share is a lucrative €510,000.
