We are down to the final round of the PGA Championship 2022 at Southern Hill Country Club at Tulsa, Oklahoma. The 104th PGA Championship is turning out to be a surprising one. Mito Pereira, Will Zalatoris, or Matt Fitzpatrick? Who will win the PGA Championship 2022? Let’s analyse their chances below.

Mito Pereira, who has never won any PGA Tour let alone a major, is leading by 3-shots after 54-hole. Moreover, Will Zalatoris and Matt Fitzpatrick, who have never won a PGA Tour either, are trailing the Chilean by 3-shots with 18 holes to go. Cameron Young, a young American golfer is trailing by 4 strokes off the top. It seems that the leaderboard is upside down as none of the top 4 have won any PGA Tour before.

Mito Pereira:

Leading the table, we have the 27-year-old Chilean Mito Pereira, a name you have probably never heard of. It’s only his 2nd PGA major appearance and he has never even won a PGA tour.

Mito Pereira, the world no. 100, showed consistent performances in all three rounds and finished them under par while many of the world famous golfers failed to do so.

The Chilean started Round 3 on Saturday with a stroke off the lead. He finished Round 3 with a massive 1-under 69, leading by 3 strokes at the top of the table, with an aggregate of 9-under after 54-hole.

In the first 43 holes, Mito Pereira made only three bogeys to make a staggering 4-stroke lead midway through Round 3. After that he felt the big game pressure and made 4 bogeys in 5 holes to see his lead shrinking to a single shot.

Pereira made an amazing comeback by scoring 3 birdies in the final 6 holes in Round 3. He rolled in a 27-foot birdie at 18th hole to restore his lead to 3 strokes after the end of the 3rd Round.

Mito Pereira at PGA Championship

Pereira showed excellent endurance under pressure in the big stage. He is likely to hold on to his 3-stroke lead on Sunday in the final round and make his very first PGA tour win a major one.

If Mito wins the PGA Championship 2022, his earnings will be more than the earnings of his entire career. The prize money of $2.7 million would eclipse his total career earnings of $2,618,115.

Will Zalatoris:

Will Zalatoris, a former masters runner-up, will start Sunday trailing by 3 strokes off the top. Like the rest of the top 4, Zalatoris has never won a PGA tour.

Zalatoris finished Friday’s Round 2 with a shot lead at the top of the table. However, he felt under pressure on the big stage early on Saturday. He started Round 3 with a terrible 4 bogeys in the first 7 holes. He finished the round with 5 bogeys scoring 3-over 73. W. Zalatoris is now on an aggregate of 6-under after 54-hole.

Will Zalatoris at PGA

Zalatoris will start the final round on Sunday with a trail by 3 strokes behind Mito Pereira. We don’t see Zalatoris coming from behind to win the PGA Championship 2022 with lack of experience on the big stages.

Matt Fitzpatrick:

The more experienced golfer among the top 3, the Englishman with 7-time DP World Tour winning record, Matt Fitzpatrick will start the final round on Sunday 3-strokes behind Mito Pereira.

Matt Fitzpatrick stormed Round 3 with 3-under 67 on Saturday. He finished the last 10 holes with 4-under par. He is now on an aggregate of 6-under after 54-hole.

Fitzpatrick will start the final round with 3-stroke behind Mito Pereira. With his experience on bigger stages, it would not be surprising if he comes back from behind to win the PGA Championship 2022.

Matt Fitzpatrick at Southern Hills

Fitzpatrick will pair with Mito Pereira in Round 4. They are set to tee off at 2:35 pm ET.

Who will Win?

Mito Pereira showed excellent endurance under pressure in the big stage. He is likely to hold on to his 3-stroke lead on Sunday in the final round and make his very first PGA tour win a major one.

Zalatoris will start the final round on Sunday with a trail by 3 strokes behind Mito Pereira. We don’t see Zalatoris coming from behind to win the PGA Championship 2022 with lack of experience on the big stages.

Fitzpatrick will start the final round with 3-stroke behind Mito Pereira. With his experience on bigger stages, it would not be surprising if he comes back to defeat Mito Pereira. But we predict Mito should hold on to his lead and be the 2022 PGA major Champion.
