John Deere Classic

The PGA Tour’s John Deere Classic has undergone a schedule change for 2022, don’t forget to alter your calendars.

The John Deere Classic is a summer PGA Tour event within the Quad Cities that delivers an in-demand weekend of golfing festivities.

And although it will remain the same for the 2022 Tour season, the tournament itself has received a date change, and for the first time since it moved to TPC Deere Run in Silvis (2000), it won’t take place a week prior to the Open Championship.

The PGA Tour representatives released the 2022 schedule last year, and it revealed the JDC would commence on June 27 – end on July 3 – a week earlier than its usual date.

Are the PGA Elite Arriving in Illinois?

The date change isn’t an issue for some and even benefits the competition that celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2021 when Lucas Glover lifted the trophy. With that said, tournament director Clair Peterson is remaining buoyant about the schedule adjustment.

To get the word that we would be two weeks before the Open, in my opinion, is really exciting news,” Peterson commented. “There are no guarantees of what kind of field you will have and what kind of players will show up.

But we do know that over the years, talking to scores and scores and scores of players that in some cases they don’t want to play in the U.S. the week before going across the Atlantic (Ocean) to acclimate to time and different course conditions.”

The John Deere Classic has foreshadowed the Open Championship since 2004, with a mere two dates during the previous eighteen years that have received a schedule change.

So, for the first time in its 50-year history, the JDC 2022 will be played two weeks before the Open Championship – a strategy implemented between the PGA and European Tour officials. Can Lucas Glover repeat his 2021 success in Silvis, Illinois?

Lucas shot 19-under par after fighting back from a four-shot deficit in the final round to win it by two. It was the 2009 U.S. Open champions’ first success in a decade. However, betting enthusiasts will be skeptical about putting their money behind Lucas in 2022 – if he participates.

With a lack of tournament victories, Lucas’ 2021 success could boil down to a lesser talented field. And now, with the potential of an upper-echelon arriving in the earlier scheduled tournament, his likelihood of repeating in 2021 is significantly lower in probability.

BetMGM in Illinois have some betting promo codes for your next pick, and you could receive an incredible odds boost on the likes of Joel Dahmen – an outsider who finished second in this tournament in 2018.

Yes, Dahmen has only competed on this course on two occasions, and he finished 33rd in 2019. However, he led after an opening 66 on day one. With betting odds of around 160/1, a T10 or T20 finish could also provide lucrative odds using a promo code from BetMGM in Illinois.

Why Did the John Deere Classic Schedule Change?

The amendments came from a coalition between the PGA and European tours. The Quad Cities are co-approved by those tours for 2022, and players will number along for both FedExCup and European Tours.

With the aforementioned schedule changes, Peterson is excited but cautious with her emotions regarding the potential of high-profile players entering the JDC.

“I just don’t want to create false hope that all of a sudden five of the top 10 players in the world are going to be here,” Peterson said. “But our conversations are certainly going to be different with players now. I think they’ll view the possibility of coming here differently with breathing room between us and the Open.”

The tournament’s famous sponsor, Deere & Co., usually receives monetary reimbursement for scheduling the event a week before the Open Championship. This benefit will continue until the contract concludes in 2023.

In recent years, Deere & Co. made a habit of renewing their contract before the final 12 months remain on a current deal. If this trend continues, contractual negotiations could commence during 2022.

Peterson expressed that earlier playing times should assist the course conditions, which are naturally high when under the maintenance of Deere’s high-quality superintendents.

The course agronomically will be wonderful,” Peterson added. “It’s the perfect time to have the event as far as the grass growing season.”
