The UFC has announced that Nate Diaz and Leon Edwards will fight at UFC 263 instead of UFC 262. This is because Diaz has suffered an injury during his training camp.

Diaz had reportedly informed the UFC management that he will be unable to recover before May 16, the day UFC 262 has been scheduled.

The details of the injury haven’t been made public, hence, the MMA fans will have to listen from the higher himself later.

The non-title welterweight fight will remain a five-round matchup. The Diaz-Edwards fight will take place alongside pair of title fights with middleweights Israel Adesanya and Marvin Vettori as the main-event, and flyweights Deiveson Figueiredo and Brandon Moreno in the co-main event.

The June 13 fight will take place on Sunday at the Gilla River Arena, Arizona.

Who did Nate Diaz fight last?

Diaz last fought to Jorge Masvidal for the BMF belt in November 2019. He lost due to a medical stoppage as he suffered two bad cuts around his eye owing to heavy blows of Masvidal.

The cage-side doctor ruled that Diaz could not continue for the fourth round. This made even UFC President Dana White unhappy, who was looking forward to the end of the much-hyped contest.

Most UFC fans were annoyed with the stoppage because almost every Diaz fight is violent like that. His skin cuts easily, but that doesn’t have a tad effect on the strong mentality of Nate. His two fights against former double UFC champ Conor McGregor were the best instance of it.

Nonetheless, Nate is eager to step inside the UFC octagon once again after remaining inactive for almost two years.

When did Leon Edwards last fight in UFC?

Leon Edwards has had a topsy turvy ride in the UFC despite beginning his career with the promotion on a high note. The fighter hasn’t been very active in recent years, and his comeback fight wasn’t very pleasing on the eye either.

Edwards last took on Belal Muhammad in March 2021. But, the highly-anticipated contest ended in a no-contest due to Edwards’ carelessness as his inadvertent eye poke rendered Bilal unable to continue.

It was being feared that Bilal might have some trouble later on, but the MMA fighter dodged any major injuries. Their social media duals have got both fighters pumped for a rematch as well. Hence, it is likely that the UFC is going to hook them up for a fight once again.

Who’s the favourite in the Nate Diaz-Leon Edwards fight?

Colby Covington feels that Edwards will grab an easy win over Diaz. In a conversation with James Lynch on YouTube, Covington said that Edwards has more skills in the bag that will help him defeat “a 50-50 journey-man fighter” Diaz.

Moreover, UFC Middleweight Julian Marquez has claimed that “Edwards will f**** destroy Nate Diaz”. He believes that Edwards’ movement and powerful strikes give him an edge over Diaz.

Luis Pena also feels that Diaz will lose the contest against a stylish Leon Edwards.
