At the institute, he had the chance to train with distinguished future UFC stars like Alexander Volkanovski and Dan Hooker. In 2010, he won seven fights in a row which got him into the 2014 Kunlun Fight 80kg tournament where He reached the semifinals and lost to Simon Marcus as the game ended in an extra round.
Adesanya took part in the Glory Middleweight Contender Tournament in 2016. He won the fight with Robert Thomas in the semifinal and defeated Yousri Belgaroui in a split decision ending in the final. In February 2020, Israel Adesanya faced criticism when in a pre-fight press conference he said that he would make his opponent “crumble like the Twin Towers”.
He apologized for his speech later and said he would never make a mistake of this kind in the future.
