The draw for the Champions League quarter-finals of the C1 took place this Friday in Switzerland with enticing posters.
The leaders of Paris SG will closely follow the clash between Chelsea, the defending champions, and Real Madrid in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
Thomas Tuchel’s team and Carlo Ancelotti’s team, both ex-technicians on the side of the capital, will face off for the shock of the quarters.
Manchester City will face Atlético Madrid, Villarreal will face Bayern Munich, and Benfica will challenge Liverpool in the other matches.
As a reminder, the final will take place on May 28 at the Stade de France.
A highly anticipated rematch between Chelsea and Real Madrid
The Merengues will make their first appearance at the title holder’s home on April 5 or 6 before playing in Spain on April 12 or 13.
It is more than just a shock, as it is also revenge after Thomas Tuchel’s men won the semi-final last season, 2-0 at home after a 1-1 draw in the first leg. Tossed internally by sanctions targeting their Russian owner Roman Abramovich, the Blues aim for the double in a particular climate.
The restrictions imposed by the British government may complicate their trip to Madrid because the maximum budget that the London team can spend to organize their trips is now 20,000 pounds or 24,000 euros…
Liverpool and Bayern Munich spared
The Atlético Madrid of Antoine Griezmann, falling to Manchester United and Cristiano Ronaldo in the eighth, will have a new trip to Manchester on its program, during the first leg against the “Citizens,” still in search of their first crown after the final lost in 2021.
Liverpool, winners of the 2019 edition, and Bayern Munich, crowned after the “Final 8” of 2020, are relatively spared by this draw: they will face Benfica Lisbon and Villarreal respectively, with the return match at home.
The draw for the semi-finals has also been achieved: the winner of Manchester City – Atlético will face that of Chelsea – Real Madrid in a dream half and potentially revenge of 2021 final, while the other poster could see Liverpool oppose Bayern, on April 26-27 and May 3-4.
The final of the event, initially scheduled in St. Petersburg before being relocated to the Stade de France near Paris in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, is scheduled for May 28 at the end of the season.
