Andrey Rublev the world’s number 5 recently competed in Serbia Open. He reached the final but lost the game to world number 1 Novak Djokovic. Rublev was seated at the press conference recently after completing the Serbia Open.
In the interview sessions, the Russians talked about many things- including why Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer stay out of the sensitive issue, what’s Daniil Medvedev, his thought on the Wimbledon decision, his experience of playing against the world’s three best tennis star.
Nadal and Federer are undoubtedly the world’s most popular tennis celebrities. They helped tennis in many ways, they always promote tennis, and they always come forward to establish tennis as the world’s biggest tournament. No one can deny their effort and contribution to tennis. But Nadal and Federer always face criticism on the matter of not talking about sensitive issues.
Nadal and Federer mostly keep silent when they face any situation. People raise so many questions and criticise them for not giving opinions and taking sides. It’s good not to give an opinion on every matter. But a person like them should have an ideology and give an opinion on their beliefs.
Andrey Rublev was asked about that too. The interviewer questioned him about what he thinks of Nadal and Federer not talking about any sensitive issue.
But Rublev doesn’t answer that question properly, he says he doesn’t know the right answer.
Rublev says, “Honestly, I don’t know. No guesswork. It’s probably better to ask them that question. I don’t want to throw too much conjecture to misinform. Is it because of the image or do they have a different opinion? I don’t know.”
For the past few months, there have been so many controversies raised. Like the time when China’s government faces huge criticism on the Peng Shuai issue. Everyone was talking about it and wanted punishment for the harasser. Even in that hot topic and where is the question about the safety of tennis players the two biggest celebrities remain silent. They almost avoid that situation and stay out of it.
Not only that time, Nadal and Federer are also silent and didn’t make any comments on the Wimbledon decision of banning Russians and Belarusian players. They didn’t come forward in support of the Ukrainian matter.
On the hand, Novak Djokovic is completely different from these two. Djokovic speaks out against the Wimbledon decision, he even planning to boycott Wimbledon. Djokovic also went to former Ukrainian tennis players to help.
Andrey Rublev on Medvedev and Wimbledon:
Rublev talks about Medvedev too at that conference. He thinks that Medvedev has fulfilled a tennis player’s biggest dream of being the world number one. And so now, Medvedev is thinking of winning grand slams and breaking the records of three tennis stars.
Like Djokovic, Andrey Rublev also thinks that Wimbledon’s decision is illogical. He thinks that banning Russian and Belarusian players won’t change anything. If they want to make a change then they should help the Ukrainian people and tennis players economically and in all other ways.
