Ben Simmons

His club has announced that Brooklyn Nets point guard Ben Simmons, who has not played a game this season, will have back surgery to treat a herniated disc.

After consulting with many back specialists, the best solution for Ben’s long-term health was for him to undergo surgery,” the Nets said in a statement.

Traded from Philadelphia in February in a high-profile trade with James Harden, Simmons still hasn’t worn his new jersey.

Simmons has been absent since the 2021 playoffs

The Nets had hoped to be able to line him up during the playoffs, but his back pain ultimately prevented him from returning to the court to help his team, eliminated 4-0 by the Boston Celtics in the first round.

After requesting his trade from the Sixers before the season began, he invoked the need to heal his mental health to stay away from the team, and so has not played a single minute since Game 7 of the Eastern Conference semifinals of the 2021 playoffs, in which Philadelphia lost to the Atlanta Hawks.
