Canada’s Bianca Andreescu lost on Saturday in three sets of 7-6 (5), 4-6, 4-6. France’s Caroline Garcia beated Bianca in the final of the grass tournament in Bad Homburg, Germany.
The rank 64th in the world Andreescu was in final for the first time since Aprill 2021. She was forced to retire from Ashleigh Barty due to an ankle injury.
Andreescu is still looking for a first title since his triumph at the 2019 U.S. Open.
This is the 8th title of her career as this 28-year-old player (75th in the world) for Garcia.
The last time she played in a final was in June 2019 in Nottingham. On grass, she was among the best in the world (4th in 2018).
Garcia had the 5-3 advantage for the breaks, while Andreescu committed all six double faults of the match.
Garcia had 53 winning shots, while Andreescu made 45 direct fouls, nine more than her rival.
The Ontarian has a 3-3 record in the final games.
At Wimbledon, Andreescu’s first rival will be America’s Emina Bektas, rank 225th in the world.
