Dana White recently stated that he opposed a clash between Kamaru Usman and Nick Diaz. He does not want the latter to be in danger in front of the Nigerian.
It’s a pretty crazy rumor that has been running for a few weeks in the UFC: Kamaru Usman vs. Nick Diaz could see the light of day for the latter’s return to the competition.
The “Nigerian Nightmare,” tempted by an adventure in boxing, seems to be gradually moving away from this track.
Indeed, UFC President Dana White strongly opposed the departure of his foal.
Ali Abdelaziz, Usman’s manager, recently said that Canelo Alvarez’s recent loss to Dmitry Bivol had mortgaged the Mexican’s chances of facing Usman.
The Nigerian should therefore return to competition at the end of 2022 while he treats his hand injury. Leon Edwards is still the big favorite to face the welterweight champion.
Dana White quickly evacuated the trail leading to Nick Diaz (via Yahoo! Sports):
“He’s been on leave for so long… listen, there’s no denying that the Diaz brothers are terrible children.
But tell me about Nick Diaz vs. Usman? Usman is the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world. I have to watch over Nick and ensure he doesn’t get hurt.
In addition to refuting the idea, Dana White places a small tackle on Nick Diaz… Logical on the part of the UFC boss, this fight has no place given the form of Nick Diaz, who has only fought 4 times since 2011.
Kamaru Usman is on an impressive streak of 19 consecutive victories with 9 finishes to the key.
