As with the many other sports, ATP, WTA and ITF banned Russia and Belarus from tennis. Though tennis allowed Russians and Belarusian players to play under a neutral flag. But recently, the Wimbledon tournament organisers provide the statement that no players from Russia and Belarus can compete in the Wimbledon grand slam.

The world’s number one Novak Djokovic speaks out against Wimbledon’s this decision. He is not the only one to raise his voice against Wimbledon, ATP and WTA also give statements against Wimbledon’s decision to ban Russians and Belarusian players.

Djokovic is out of the big tournaments for a now long time. He appeared in the Monte Carlo Masters but failed to give his old performance. He lost in the very first round of the tournament to Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. Later, Davidovich Fokina reached the final but lost to Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Djokovic is currently playing at the Serbia Open in his homeland. It’s his most favourite place to compete and he is the only boss around here. Djokovic is now in the quarterfinal of the Serbia Open. He will play against Miomir Kecmanović in the quarterfinal on April 21, Thursday.

On Wednesday, at the Serbia Open conference, Djokovic talked about the Wimbledon issue. He says to the press, “I will always condemn war, I will never support war as being myself a child of war. I know how much emotional trauma war leaves. In Serbia, we all know what happened in the year 1999. In the Balkans, we have had many wars history in recent days.”

“However, I cannot support the decision of Wimbledon, I think it is crazy. When politics interferes with sport, the result is not good.”

Djokovic spends his childhood time at Belgrade during wartime. This war broke Yugoslavia in the late 1990s. So, Djokovic knows how hard it is to face war and how difficult one’s life becomes after the post-war situation.

As Wimbledon banned Russia and Belarus players from playing at their grand slam many worlds famous top-ranked won’t be able to join in the tournament. Most notably the former number one and currently world number 2, Daniil Medvedev won’t able to join Wimbledon. Women’s number four from Belarus ArynaSabalenka will also have to cancel her trip to Wimbledon.

Can Djokovic play at the Wimbledon?

Djokovic is criticising the decision of Wimbledon and taking sides of suffering players from Russia and Belarus. But his presence at the Wimbledon is not sure either.

As the Covid-19 situation is calm now and the outbreak of the virus is under control. So, Djokovic not getting a vaccination won’t be a problem for his appearance in tournaments. He is joining the French Open that is almost sure.

But Novak Djokovic’s appearance at the Wimbledon is not certain yet. Till now, he can compete at the Wimbledon 2022 to defend his title but if Wimbledon put rules on, mandatory Covid-19 vaccination then Djokovic’s tickets to joining Wimbledon will be cancelled.
