Former goalkeeper of the American team (202 caps) and huge soccer star in the United States, Hope Solo is experiencing difficult times as she prepares to begin a detox.
The 40-year-old former player, who hung up the cleats in 2016, was arrested several weeks ago for drunk driving while parking in a parking lot.
According to court documents, a passerby said Solo had “fainted at the wheel” of his car for more than an hour with the engine running. Her two children, two-year-old twins, were in the vehicle’s back seat.
The trouble with the law in 2014
Hope Solo, 40, has already been in trouble with the law. In 2014, she was arrested for beating her half-sister and a 17-year-old nephew at a family gathering.
At the time, she explained that she had acted in self-defense and the case had been closed.
In a message to fans on social media, the former goalkeeper and two-time Olympic champion (2008 and 2012), and World Cup winner confirmed that she had been taken care of for treatment and that her induction into the Football Hall of Fame had been postponed until next year.
I contacted the Hall of Fame and respectfully requested a postponement of my induction ceremony to 2023. I will voluntarily enter an alcohol treatment program to solve my problems.
My energies and focus are on my health, healing, and caring for my family. I want to thank the Hall of Fame for their support and understanding of my decision,” the Richland, Washington, native wrote.
