A heavy shower over Mirpur interrupted the long-awaited concert of AR Rahman however he is expected to appear on the stage in the next few minutes as the rain has eventually stopped.
‘Cricket Celebrates Mujib 100’ featuring AR Rahman started at 4:15 pm at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium with the National anthem on Tuesday at 4:15 pm hosted by the Bangladesh Cricket Board to pay a tribute to the father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh MujiburRahman on the occasion of his birth centenary.
The program has been divided into two parts. The first will take place in the afternoon following the opening of the gate while the reminder part will start at 7 pm.
The first part took place in the afternoon for one-and-a-half hours when the local artists as Miles, Momtaz alongside a few from within the country have performed while the second part was supposed to be held from 7:15 pm- 12pam when AR Rahman was present his solo performance.
The Oscar-winning singer and composer are expected to sing around 35 songs at the concert.
Satellite TV channel News24 will televise the concert live.
To pay a tribute to the father of the nation the BCB held the first concert in the opening ceremony of the Bangladesh Premier League 2019 where the Bollywood superstar Salman Khan alongside Katrina Kaif, Sonu Nigam, Kailash Kher appeared together at the colorful stage of the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on December 9, 2019.
In its continuation, the Tigers cricket administration was also scheduled to hold the concert of AR Rahman subsequently in the very next year along with two friendly T20Is between Asia XI and the rest of the world, but they couldn’t due to the worldwide Covid-19 surge back in March 2020.
However, considering the ongoing preferable state of the pandemic nationwide the BCB has decided to host the concert afresh that would be a finisher of the celebration birth centenary of the Bangabandhu Sheikh MujiburRahman.
Meanwhile, they have branded several bilateral series both home and away along with domestic tournaments in the name of the father of the nation.
