The American world number 11, Sam Burns just finished his Open Championship final round. He draws the conclusion with four birdies and final four holes to shoot 64. This will keep the Americans hope to chase the Open Championship round four leading golfers Rory McIlroy and Viktor Hovland.
Burns was final round matched with the week’s best player. He strokes with Cameron Young best of the day Thursday and Cameron Smith best of the day Friday. Burns was three under to the turn but failed to birdie the par-five 14th.
Anyway, the day went very well for Sam Burns. He managed to give a stellar performance on the Old Course. His amazing finish with the notoriously difficult 17th hole truly forms an iconic moment for Burns and four birdies will help him to stay on top of the leaderboard.
Burns said after finishing the final round, “It’s probably the most benign conditions we have had all the week: it’s a little bit softer with the rain and not as much wind so it is definitely more gettable.”
“That (finish) was nice. I just hit the correct shots and get it in there pretty close and make putts.”
“It’s always nice to finish that way. Just unfortunate to shoot 64 in the final round and still finish 40th.”
Burns’s fellow Americans Tony Finau fished the final round with eight birdies. And his 66 lifted him to eight under, while Thailand’s SadomKaewkanjana.
On the hand, Rory McIlroy is very much confident about his last day’s performance at the Open Championship. He believed he could win the game. Plus, all the fans want that the trophy to go into McIlroy’s house. He will look forward to winning his first major in 8 years. McIlroy last won a major in 2014 at the Valhalla.
McIlroy said, “I finished off enough golf tournaments in my time to feel like I know what to do.”
“I just have to do my thing and I’ve been doing my thing for the last three days and it’s put me in a good position.”
