Jessica Campbell became the first assistant coach in the American Hockey League. The Coachella Valley Firebirds hired her.
Â
“I’m very excited. I think it will fit me like a glove,” said the native of Rocanville, Saskatchewan, quoted by the Kraken website. I am delighted to join the Kraken organization.
Â
She will support Dan Bylsma. Campbell will be at the Kraken Development Camp from July 11-14 to work with the team’s hopefuls.
Â
“It’s a pride for me to teach the details that make the difference between winning and losing at the highest levels of the sport,” she said.
Â
I believe a lot in adding value to your game through skating or specific skills. That said, it has to reach or challenge the player on an individual level.
Â
For the past year, Campbell has worked with the Tri-City Storm of the USHL. Last May, she was also an assistant coach with Germany at the World Hockey Championships.
Â
As a player, Campbell represented Canada at the U18 World Championships in 2009 and 2010.
Â
In the latter case, she was the captain and led hers with 15 points in Chicago. She gave Canada the win in overtime in the gold medal game.
Â
Coachella Valley will play at the Acrisure Arena, which opens in December. The place will be able to accommodate more than 11,000 people.
