In his statement, Spieth says the Open Championship at St. Andrews is ‘arguably the best golf tournament we play, yet it could be easy.
The British Open is the oldest golf tournament in history. It describes as the birthplace of golf. This year 2022, the St. Andrews golf course will host the 150th edition of the tournament.
The venue is one of the oldest golf courses that has ever been made. It has its own history alongside so many legendary tales. Many world’s best golfers started their professional careers in Open Championship. The tournament is called ‘open championship cause both professionals and amateurs can compete here. There are special 16 seats reserved for the freshers.
Anyway, Open Championship’s one of the favourites golfers Jordan Spieth is currently taking final preparation for the British Open at the Genesis Scottish Open. After that from next week, he joins the world’s biggest golf tournament, the 2022 Open Championship.
After finishing the first 68 rounds at the Scottish Open, Spieth was asked about selecting the St. Andrew venue for hosting British Open.
The reporter asked him, “Do you look forward to St Andrew’s differently compare to other venues for The Open?”
In answer to that question, Spieth says, “I think the Open at St. Andrews is arguably the best golf tournament we play.”
Then Spieth explained why St. Andrews is considered the home golf and why it’s so special.
In Spieth’s words, “I just think the history of it, playing in the town, the idea that it could be the easiest or either the hardest venue that we play depending on the day. Maybe it’s just I remember watching certain ones growing up, and so the holes, the kind of scenic holes, starting and finishing.”
Spieth last played British Open at St. Andrew in 2015. He thinks the tournament in St. Andrew will be too easy for competitors compare to its reputation. The course was created a long long time ago. The combination of the modern golf club and ball technology will be allying present days players. Where the venue’s many classic links or coastal courses are almost defenceless against today’s players who are habituated to modern standards of golf.
But if the wind started to blow then the tournament will be highly challenging. Though nothing won’t be a matter as the competition is among players not with the course.
