Justin Thomas will be very pleased by defeating the LIV Golf Participant Opponents in the Genesis Scottish Open which starts on Thursday.
At The Renaissance Club, Thomas maintained his reputation as one of the PGA Tour’s most prominent voices. He prepared to face four players whose bans from the DP World Tour had stayed.
We have yet to learn the results of the challenges filed by Ian Poulter, Adrian Otaegui, Justin Harding, and Branden Grace of LIV Golf.
The Barbasol and Barracuda Championships, as well as this week’s DP Tour event, were originally off-limits to DP World Tour participants. A fascinating dynamic could emerge just one week since The Open.
Golfers on the DP World Tour who participated during the first LIV Golf competition at Centurion Club last month were penalized £100,000 and prohibited from playing in the Scottish Open. However, their appeal against the penalty was granted on Monday.
What has been said by Justin Thomas?
“If I know all four of them, then it will be fine,” Thomas said about the possibility of playing with them. “It will be easy. But even if I don’t, I don’t necessarily think we’re going to be having any gamesmanship or needling each other out there.
“At the end of the day, they are here for the same reason we are. And that’s just trying to play well and give yourself an opportunity to win the Scottish Open. If it so happens that it comes to that point. And you have an opportunity to beat one of them to win the tournament. It might be a little better, but I’m sure they would say the same thing.
“I’ll be the first to say I’ve gotten wrapped up emotionally from time to time. And I’m allowed to do that. I’m passionate about it and I feel a certain way. But at the end of the day, I and others, first and foremost. Need to focus on playing good golf because that’s the No 1 priority.
