Bangladesh Cricket Board is not going to announce the Tigers squad for the two Tests against Sri Lanka prior to the Eid-ul-Fitr.
On Sunday, Tiger’s selector Habibul Bashar said that they are unlikely to announce the Bangladesh squad for the two Tests against touring Sri Lanka before the Eid.
‘We are likely to declare the squad following the Eid-ul-Fitr,’ said Habibul Bashar.
He further added that they [selection panel] held a short meeting on Sunday for the first time about the team selection for the upcoming series.
‘We sat yesterday for the first time about the team selection for the forthcoming series. We need to hold a few meetings in this respect. We would be able to declare the team for the series against Sri- Lanka after Eid.’
The Sri Lankan cricket team will arrive in Bangladesh on May 8 for a series that will be part of the 2021-2023 ICC World Test Championship.
Following a two-day practice match, scheduled for May 11 and 12 at the MA Aziz Stadium in Chattogram, the two teams will play the first Test on May 15 at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in the port city.
The teams will then travel to Dhaka for the second and final Test of the series, beginning on May 23 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.
Touring Sri Lanka started the series with two wins, and an equal number of defeats guided them to spot number four at the ICC World Test Championship points table, bagging 24 points from 4 Tests.
Simultaneously the host Tigers will start the campaign with only 12 points from 6 games, spotting at eight in the points table of the second cycle of the ICC World Test Championship.
However, they were expected to propel them up, earning a few more points in the recently concluded series with South Africa; however, they failed as the Proteas clean swept them by 2-0 in the two Tests.
