Olympic is the world biggest event of sports. It’s the gathering and celebrating of every kind of sport that takes strength, power, energy, ability, quality and a heart full of appetite and confidence to compete against the whole world.

People and athletics from all around the globe assemble in a place for this royal event. Athletes are honoured with medals according to their merits. In Olympics, they give three types of medals- Gold, Silver and Bronze for the first, second and third prize respectively.

Now 2020 Tokyo Olympics is underway. Before that there’s been a total of 51 Olympics that took place in the past, 28 in summer and 23 in winter. All countries joined in those Olympics and biggest sports honour for their country.

What is Olympic Games?

Before going into the Olympic medal counting section let’s built a lucid idea(for those who already know the history and begging of the Olympics can skip this part).

The origin of the Olympics started a long long time ago. It was the time when the Greeks were the ruler of the world. They used to arrange a big sports celebration and people from all corners of the world came here. The game was named after the city of Olympia located in ancient Greece. Historians said that the game first started in 776 BC and in that time it lasts since 393 AD. And then after the 1503 year’s later of its end, the Olympic got his rebirth. And that’s what we see today as the modern Olympic.

The man who is responsible for the rebirth of the Olympics is Baron Pierre de Coubertin, a Frenchman. He is considered the father of the modern Olympics. He first proposed the idea of a new Olympic in 1894. And as his initiative, the first modern Olympic took place in Athens, Greece, in 1896.

And since then, after every four years, IOC (International Olympic Committee) arrange this event. The game takes place in two features, the Summer Olympic and the Winter Olympic. The Olympics have held a total of 51 times and got cancelled three times in 1916, 1940,1944, all three world war was responsible for the cancellation.

What is Olympic Medal?

There are three types of medals available for the competitors, the Gold, Bronze and Silver medal. Contestants got this according to their merit, first second and third(sorry, but there is no consolation prize). Athletes got these titles in 33 sports and 46 disciplines.

It’s the biggest prize one can earn in their lifetime as a sportsman. It’s not just self-achievement, it’s an achievement for the country. It’s an opportunity to represent one’s country in front of the whole world and place to earn the honour for his motherland. And for this, the Olympics is considered the world greatest sports event.

In the Olympics total of 206 countries participate with their best athletic. But all of them can’t win the medal. 72 countries never won a single medal in Olympics. And the top medal earning county is the USA, they hold 29 Olympic medals in their bag.
