Ousmane Dembele’s contract saga comes to an end as the Frenchman has reportedly rejected Barcelona’s latest contract renewal offer, according to Sique Rodriguez on SER Catalunya.
The 25-year-old forward joined Barcelona for a 5-year contract in 2017 that will end on June 30, 2022. The former Dortmund star has not agreed on a contract renewal with the club after several attempts. Now, both the parties are not interested anymore to sit at a table. It means that Dembele is set to leave the club as a free agent without Barcelona getting anything for him.
The contract talk between the Catalan Club and Dembele’s agent failed months earlier. After the appointment of Xavi as the club manager and Dembele’s excellent performance, the manager insisted on keeping the French forward. However, that possibility seems to be gone amid the financial crises of the Blaugrana.
Barcelona signed Ousmane Dembele from Dortmund with a transfer fee worth €130m as a replacement for Neymar in 2017. Dembele’s career, however, has been marked by injuries and fitness problems. He has scored a goal and assisted 13 in 21 appearances this season.
The English outfit Chelsea has approached the player to offer him a lucrative contract and the Frenchman may well join Chelsea at the beginning of July this year.
