According to an agreement signed on Thursday and announced by the city and the British Olympic Committee, the British Olympic team will take up residence in Saint-Germain-en-Laye (Yvelines) a month before the Paris 2024 Olympics.
“Team GB,” one of the main Olympic nations (4th at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021), will be able to use the facilities of the Georges-Lefevre stadium, in particular a renovated athletics track, also a swimming pool, and the Poissy hospital for the needs of the medical staff.
During the Olympics (26 July-11 August), British athletes will be able to sail between the Olympic Village, located about thirty kilometres away, in Saint-Denis north of Paris, and Saint-Germain (northwest of Paris), where the Paris SG training center is located.
The city also intends to contract with federations to bring in British athletes in the next two years, before major competitions, said Paul Bouteiller, Olympic project manager for the city.
“Team GB needs a preparation camp of excellence to achieve its high goals,” Sir Hugh Robertson, president of the British Olympic Committee, said.
In 2020, the American Olympic team chose its part, well in advance, to establish its rear base at the Eaubonne sports performance center in the Val-d’Oise, north of Paris, about 10 kilometers from the Olympic Village.
