It has been known for a month that Chelsea’s in-form center-back Antonio Rudiger would not renew his contract with the club.
It means the 29-year-old work-horse defender will leave Chelsea as a free agent after his contract expires at the end of June this year. Hence, Rudiger’s new club could sign him for free, without paying any transfer fee to Chelsea. The Spanish Champions Real Madrid were heavily in contact with the German international to sign him.
Finally, reports have arrived from transfer pundits like David Ornstein and Fabrizio Romano that Antonio Rudiger has signed a pre-contract agreement with Real Madrid. It includes that the player will join Real Madrid for a 4-year contract till 2026 for a lucrative salary. The medical has already been done in London.
Antonio Rudiger will join Real Madrid at the beginning of July. Official announcement from Real Madrid is expected to come after their Champions League final on 28 May.
According to David Ornstein and Fabrizio Romano, Antonio Rudiger will earn a lucrative €10m net salary per year, similar to Karim Benzema and Luka Modric.
On top of that, the release clause is set to an enormous €400m. It’s an unpayable amount and a frustrating reminder for Chelsea that they could sell the player for a huge profit.
How will Antonio Rudigerr’s move affect Chelsea Defense?
Antonio Rudiger had been a key piece in Chelsea’s backline since January last year. His dedication and performance for the team helped them to be the European Champions in the 2020-2021 season. Chelsea showcased a magnificent defensive display to win the Champions League, conceding only 2 goals in 7 matches in the knockout stages. They kept 5 clean sheets in the knockout stages in 7 matches.
Losing Rudiger, amid issues of sanction imposed by the UK government on the club and taking over by new authority, will have an immense negative impact on Chelsea’s defense.
Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel wished to keep the 29-year-old defender but couldn’t renew his contract. He expressed,
“We fought hard; I fought hard on a personal level. We made big offers to him, and the club tried everything. But for some weeks we cannot fight anymore because we have the sanctions. We cannot adjust. We cannot continue, and so it is what it is.”
To make things worse for the Blues, three more defenders namely Andreas Christensen, Marcos Alonso and the club captain Cesar Azpilicueta could leave the club this transfer window. The former is heavily linked with Barcelona for a free transfer.
The new authority must bolster the Chelsea Defense with new signings. Villarreal star Pau Torres and Sevilla youngster Jules Kounde are on their radar.
How will Rudiger fit in the Real Madrid Lineup?
With his strength, dedication, and work rate, Antonio Rudiger will fit right in the back four of Madrid Defense, playing alongside David Alaba or Militao as a center-back.
The Spanish Champions Real Madrid have successfully grabbed the free defender Antonio Rudiger. The German gem at the backline has been contracted with a 4-year deal, with a lucrative €10m net salary per year.
Carlo Ancelotti’s men have already bagged the La Liga title this season sparing 4 matches. Real Madrid are set to meet Liverpool in the Champions League final on 28 May.
Already dominating the domestic and European competitions, and having Eder Militao and David Alaba in the heart of the defense, the presence of Antonio Rudiger will surely bolster the defensive strength of the Galacticos.
To sum up, Antonio Rudiger is a good grab for Real Madrid. The Spanish Champions will be closing in on another free transfer, the best young talent in the World Kylian Mbappe. This Frenchman has not yet renewed his contract with PSG and will be a free agent at the end of the next season.
