Robert Lewandowski To Barcelona : A Done Deal

It seems like the soap opera related to Robert Lewandowski has come to an end. At last, he seals his dream move to Barcelona as the Catalan club bid their final offer which is accepted by the German giant Bayern Munich.

33rd-year-old Polish International has had a great career so far. He’s a lethal finisher in front of the goal and a representative of the rare breed of pure No. 9 in this modern era of football although his build-up play is also remarkable. He rose to his peak while playing for Borussia Dortmund. He scored 103 goals from 187 matches during his time at the Signal Eduna Park. However, his 4 goal haul in a UCL semifinal against Real Madrid is the highlight of his Dortmund career.

In the summer of 2014, he left Dortmund to fulfill his dream of winning more silverware and most notably winning the holy grail of European football, the UCL. He was a free agent then as his contract expired in 2014 and German giant Bayern Munich did a coup by having one of the best strikers in the world for nothing. Robert then won many trophies with the Bavarians including the cherished UCL in 2020 and 8 Bundesliga titles in a row.

In total, he scored 341 goals from 370 matches for Bayern. He was so close to winning the Ballon D’or in 2020. The irony is, that France football magazine declared that they wouldn’t hold the ceremony due to the Covid surge throughout the world. Lewandowski ranked 2nd in the following year’s ceremony, just behind the winner Leo Messi.

After conquering Bundesliga for more than a decade and winning everything for the two Bundesliga sides, Robert Lewandowski decided to leave Allianz Arena. He has one more year to his contract with the German side and they have no interest to sell him nevertheless, the player is keen to make a move and in that case, his only desirable destination is Barcelona. He expressed his thoughts clearly by stating that something inside of him has died and he felt no urge to win anything. He added that he needed more motivation and inspiration and requested to his club make things easier for him so that he could leave without any hassle.

Even though the Bundesliga side had no intention to sell their prized asset, even more so to a rival club that gets stronger with each passing day. According to transfer analysts, the Catalan club made several offers to buy Robert and in every case, Bayern refused to sell. However, according to the Italian journalist, Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona made their final offer recently which was worth nearly €42million and Bayern has accepted the bid. Talks are ongoing between the two clubs to finalize the paper works.

The deal is almost done and the declaration could come at any minute now. Barcelona is rebuilding their squad and the Polish International would be a lethal weapon for Xavi, that’s for sure.
