ROLAND-GARROS 2022: One hour and thirty-eight minutes, Daniil Medvedev could not dream of a better start at Porte d’Auteuil.
The Russian, world number 2, easily took the measure of Facundo Bganis in three sets (6-2, 6-2, 6-2).
On the other hand, Denis Shapovalov, a quarter-finalist in Melbourne at the beginning of the season, was rolled by Holger Rune (6-3, 6-1, 7-6).
MEDVEDEV DIDN’T EVEN FORCE
A big smile for Daniil Medvedev. Still, out in the 1st round at Roland Garros before last year (quarterfinals), the Russian continued his nascent series by very quietly dismissing Facundo Bagnis on the Suzanne-Lenglen (6-2, 6-2, 6-2).
An equally simple second round awaits him, either against Ricardas Berankis or against Laslo Djere.
To note one or two false notes, it will be remembered that Medvedev conceded twice his service, 1-0 in his favor at the very beginning of the game and 2-1, always in his favor, in the third and last set.
So never in hot moments when he very logically got the better of an opponent who was not dangerous for him.
His 19 direct fouls reveal a rather clean match for the Russian who arrived in Roland with only one match on earth, lost to Richard Gasquet in Geneva.
RUNE DEBUNKS SHAPOVALOV
Holger Rune is Danish; he is only 19 years old and has only played two Grand Slam matches so far without winning one.
This Tuesday, he opened his counter in the 1st round and not against anyone since Denis Shapovalov was seeded number 14.
The Canadian could not do anything against the opposing talent and lost in three sets (6-3, 6-1, 7-6).
When “Shapo” saved a match ball on Rune’s serve at 5-4 in the final set, we thought he was still capable of turning the match around.

It was only a reprieve, and it was in the tie-break that Rune concluded the game.
He confirms his good season on earth (success in Munich, half in Lyon) and will face Martinez or Laaksonen in the next round.
For Shapovalov, author of 53 direct fouls, it is a new disappointment at Roland Garros.
