Sadio Mane will leave Liverpool this summer, according to sports journalist and trade expert Fabrizio Romano. Bayern Munich is a strong contender, but we can’t say which it will be.
Liverpool had the Premier League championship taken away from them on the last day of the season when Manchester City battled back from a two-goal deficit against Aston Villa to win by one point. They were defeated despite outplaying Real Madrid in the Champions League final on Saturday.
In an interview before the game, Mane pledged to divulge his plans after the Champions League final in Paris, causing a commotion among Liverpool supporters and the media. According to reports, he was looking for a new adventure following six great years with the club.
Jurgen Klopp downplayed rumors over Mane’s future at his pre-final press conference. But did not affirm that he would remain at Liverpool.
Mane is not just a target for Bundesliga heavyweights Bayern Munich. Still, a transfer to Bayern is more likely than a contract extension at Liverpool, according to German tabloid Bild on May 23.
According to the source, Mane is considering a fresh challenge after six years at Liverpool, and Bayern Munich would be willing to pay €30 million ($32 million; £27.5 million) to recruit him.
Bayern sports director Hasan Salihamidzic had previously spoken with Mane’s agents, according to L’Equipe. Sky Germany had also hinted it would happen earlier in May. The suspicions intensified when only a day before the Champions League final. L’Equipe reported that Bayern Munich is near to signing Mane.
Journalist Fabrizio Romano reported on Twitter that: ‘Sadio Mane has decided to leave Liverpool this summer.”
‘He’s ready for a new experience after many memorable years with Reds – it will be confirmed to the club.
‘Bayern is strong contenders – but it’s still open and not completed as Sadio wanted to wait for the final.’
Klopp and Liverpool will undoubtedly want to extend Mane’s contract. However, the club’s January acquisition of winger Luis Diaz from Porto will have softened the impact of losing their best player.
