Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman finished with 3-23 for Delhi Capitals over Gujrat Titans; however, all his efforts were vain following a collective effort from Shubman Gill and Lockie Fargun that guided Gujrat to propel an a14-run victory over Delhi in the Indian Premier League at Pune on Saturday.
Tiger left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman started his 2022 Indian Premier League campaign for Delhi Capitals for the first time following his arrival from South Africa, bagging an epic 2-1 one-day series win over the hosts.
He was the most clinical bowler on his side after scalping three wickets off 23 runs in his four-over spell.
But Mustafiz’s gleam was eclipsed by Lockie Ferguson and Shubman Gill.
Shubman Gill struck a brisk 84 off 46 balls while Hardik Pandiya, David Miller chipped with 31 off 27 and unbeaten 20 off 15 to catapult 171-6 for Gujrat Titans.
With the ball a four-wicket-haul from Lockie Ferguson off 28 balls, Mohammad Shami’s double and one wicket each for Rashid Khan and Hardik Pandya restricted Dekhi Capitals to 157-9.
Mustafizur Rahman claimed 3, Khaleel Ahmed took 2, and Kuldeep Yadav ended with one wicket.
For Delhi, Rishabh pant smacked the highest whirlwind 43 off 29 balls while other batters failed to reach the threshold of 30.
Hardik Pandya, the Gujrat skipper, told after the tie that, ‘the kind of attack we have, we always felt that we can make a score that’s 10-under-par look like 25 above.’
He further added that, ‘till Rishabh was there, the game was in the balance or maybe Delhi was ahead, and that over from Lockie really turned it for us.’
Meanwhile, Lockie Ferguson said, ‘Hardik is always giving us the confidence to play the game that we want to play, and it’s nice to have a captain who trusts your skills.’
