American, two-time Olympic snowboard champion Chloe Kim said she would not be competing in the 2022-23 season to focus on her mental health after an “exhausting” year.
American Chloe Kim became the youngest woman to win an Olympic gold medal in snowboarding when she won the halfpipe at the 2018 Winter Games at the age of 17 and defended her title in Beijing earlier this year.
Just for my mental health,” Kim told cheddar news when asked about her decision not to participate in the 2022-2023 season.
I just want to do some kind of reset. I don’t want to get back to it right away after such a fun but exhausting year, knowing it was an Olympic year.
I just want to enjoy this moment, absorb everything and come back to it when I feel ready, but for now, the plan is most certainly to aim for a third medal.
Also, the 22-year-old took a full season off after the 2018 Games to focus on her studies and mental health.
The Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics will take place in February 2026.
