Tom Brady has publicly commented on his decision to retire after just 40 days as part of the latest edition of “The Match,” an exhibition event where the NFL’s greatest quarterbacks compete on golf courses.
On the airwaves of the TNT channel, the veteran quarterback said he felt the pressure a few days before the opening of the market for autonomous players in the NFL.
In the absence of a decision for the rest of his career, Brady decided to retire to devote more time to his family.
“At the time, I was confused. It was a yes to 55% and a no to 45%. I hadn’t made a 100% decision. It was just reality,” revealed Brady, who teamed up with Aaron Rodgers in golf in this duel against Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen.
“It may seem like I’m not 100% committed to my decision. It’s just that I shouldn’t delay in my thought process, and I felt pressure from the free-agent market.
You can’t decide to participate in a marathon just two weeks before it. So I had to make a quick decision,” added Brady, who will celebrate his 45th birthday in August.
“When you’re the age of Patrick Mahomes or Josh Allen, you’re 100% up for it. However, as you get older, your responsibilities change, and your thinking is different about what to do next.
Many people take care of me, and it matters to me. The older you get, the busier your life off the football field becomes,” added the 22-year NFL veteran.
Tom Brady is under contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the 2022 season. In the end, he will become a free agent without restriction. He did not address his future beyond the next campaign.
