Antonio Conte

When we look at the current Tottenham Hotspur F.C manager Antonio Conte, what can we understand? He is an obstinate individual who is driven by his inner force. His aggressive psyche, charismatic approach, and winning mentality make him called ‘The Godfather’ in his home country, Italy. Before him, Juventus was without a league title for a long time. He took the helm and guided the Old ladies of Torino to success. He won 3 scudetto in a row for them and laid the foundation for their next decade’s monopoly in the Serie A.

He came to the premier league to manage Chelsea and won the league title in his 1st managerial year in England. He took the Inter Milan job without any hesitation though brutal Juve fans labeled him a traitor. He was in the San Siro for just 2 seasons & managed to win his 4th scudetto as a coach. He transformed the squad & made a force out of them. An alleged disagreement with the owner group Suning Holdings Group saw him leave the club just after winning the title. He wanted to further strengthen the team whereas the owner intended to make money from selling star players.

The difference in philosophy:

However, taking the job at the North London club didn’t make any sense as the manager wants to win all the time and demanded to back to the transfer market. On the contrary, the chairman of the club, Daniel Levy, doesn’t intend to spend big. The result is evident also as the club won just a league cup in 2008 which is their only silverware in the 21st century.

The steep difference in the philosophy makes the case a curious one nevertheless Daniel Levy did and still does which is very much uncharacteristic of his nature. He appointed Fabio Paratici as the managing director of the club and he signed two players from his former employer Juventus, Dejan kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur.

Conte is doing his job:

Tottenham was 9th when Conte took the job and out of European football for two years. He changed the atmosphere with his magical man management and successfully ditched Arsenal to take the last spot for UCL. With the help of Paratici and the backing of Levy, Conte does what he needs to do, reinforce his squad with capable players. Tottenham already has a fearsome attack as they have Harry Kane, Heung-min Son, Kulusevski and Lucas Moura at their disposal.

However, Conte spends big on another attacker and bought Brazilian International Richarlison from Everton for a fee of £60 million. He now possesses one of the most terrifying attacking sides in Europe. He made some changes in the midfield already and that worked nevertheless he brought a bright player from Briton & Hove Albion, Yves Bissouma. The player caught the eye of many clubs but Conte landed the player for a fee of £30 million. It’s a bargain deal as the player is far more valuable. Conte lured his favorite disciple Ivan Perisic from his former club Inter Milan for free. The Croatian international has a great knack for attacking and is a working dog also.

They brought Fraser Froster from Southampton to increase the depth of the squad and very recently signed French International Clement Lenglet from Barcelona for a season-long loan deal. Both of the singing signal that Conte is going all out to win trophies this time. However, these are not all. They have made a deal with Middlesbrough for their right back Djed Spence and a fee of £20 million is agreed.

To bolster their midfield, Conte is now looking to sign the Argentine midfielder, Rodrigo De Paul from Atletico although the player has no desire to leave the Spanish side. Meanwhile, they sold Steve Bergwin to Ajax for £28 million which helps them to balance the book. Therefore, the transfer window is still on and Conte & Paratici are still on the hunt. The players are motivated also and start to believe that maybe this time, it’ll be their time.
