On Thursday, Stefanos Tsitsipas won the match against Karen Khachanov (24th) 4-6, 6-0, 6-3 and move into the quarterfinals of the ATP Rome. In the next round, the Greek (5th in the world) will face Jannik Sinner (13th) or Filip Krajinovic (54th).
After giving up the first set to Khachanov, Tsitsipas won nine games in a row to stick to a set everywhere and break away 3-0 in the decisive set. The Russian did not give up and managed to put an end to the bleeding, but he never managed to threaten Tsitsipas on his serve so that the two-time winner of Monte-Carlo quietly imposed himself.
Stefanos Tsitsipas, a finalist last year at Roland Garros after winning his first tournament in the Masters 1000 category there, continues this season his series on clay since the beginning of spring.
After his title in Monte-Carlo, he was beaten in the quarters in Barcelona by Carlos Alcaraz, then in the semis in Madrid by Alexander Zverev. Thus he can again hope to participate in Roland Garros’ last major preparation tournament (May 22-June 5).
