NFL Week 1 Picks : Prediction and Best Odds
NFL Week 1 Picks : Prediction and Best Odds

The NFL betting season is underway – even though the play does not begin until Sept. 8.

Here in this article, we will discuss the NFL week 1 matchup and predictions. You are going to get a detailed guideline to place a bet on your favorite team using free sports picks.

10 new coaches were hired in the offseason, Matt Ryan and Russell Wilson swapped conferences, and Tom Brady returned after a 40-day “retirement.”

On Thursday night, the Super Bowl champion Rams host the Buffalo Bills at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, to kick off the 272-game NFL regular season.

The Rams are 1-point favorites at online betting sites. The game looks like a pick ’em, with each team fetching -110 odds on the Moneyline. The total is a gracious 52 points.

In February, the Rams beat the Bengals in Super Bowl 56 at SoFi. Matt Stafford is back with all universe-wide receiver Cooper Kupp.

However, the Rams suffered significant losses in the offseason.

After signing with Buffalo, Von Miller will watch the Rams raise their championship banner. After tearing his ACL in the Super Bowl, Odell Beckham Jr. remains unsigned as a free agent.

Andrew Whitworth, a four-time Pro Bowl lineman and long-elusive Super Bowl champion retired after playing 18 seasons in the NFL.

In the Divisional Round, the Chiefs ended the Bills’ playoff run. There were 25 points in the final 3 minutes of regulation before the Chiefs won the OT coin toss and the game, 42-36.

A change in NFL rules ensures both teams one possession in overtime, even if the first team scores a touchdown.

Underdogs Hold Early-Season Edge

Last year, the underdogs took a large lead early in the season when covering ATS. The oddsmakers at betting apps are keeping things tight early in the 2022-23 season.

On the Week 1 schedule, only one game has a line greater than 7 points.

There are 10 games with home underdogs

Miller isn’t the only big-name player facing his former team this season. Wilson and the Broncos visit Seattle on Monday night in Week 1.

Wilson played for the Seahawks for 13 seasons before being traded to the Broncos as a quarterback swap.

Wilson’s return to Seattle has been moved to the top of the schedule pile due to concerns that the Seahawks might be among the worst teams in the NFC, and his time in Seattle will be a focus of much offseason hype.

We simply don’t have enough RedZone Octo-Boxes for the early slate, with nine games starting at 1 p.m. on Sunday. The marquee 4:25 p.m. games feature the Packers visiting NFC North rival Minnesota and the Raiders facing the Chargers at home.

NFL 2022-23 Season Week 1 Picks

Thursday, Sept. 8

Buffalo Bills at Los Angeles Rams – 8:20 p.m. (NBC)

Super Bowl 57 could be seen as a preview of the NFL season-opener “Battle of the Seans.”. After Sean Payton leaves New Orleans, Sean McVay and Sean McDermott will battle for “Sean” coaching bragging rights.

For the Rams, things are only going to get tougher. The Rams have a home opener against the Bills, a game against Dallas, and a game against Tampa Bay, where they eliminated the Bucs in the playoffs last season.

The rams get a break by having the whole offseason to prepare for the Bills, but this game is a big disappointment for the home team.

  • Best Bet – Bills +1 at -115 with DraftKings

Sunday, Sept. 11

Baltimore Ravens at New York Jets – 1 p.m. (CBS)

It is a familiar scenario for the Jets to start as underdogs at home. The Gang Green went 4-13 overall last season but went +2 ATS. Four of the Jets’ six wins came at home.

Zach Wilson has entered his second season and hopes to survive it. Since this is the closest, the NFL gets to the opposite world, keep an eye on the Jets to win this one outright, ruining their hopes of getting the first overall pick once again.

  • Best Bet – Jets Moneyline at +165 with DraftKings
Philadelphia Eagles at Detroit Lions – 1 p.m. (Fox)

The Lions were the surprise betting story of the 2021-22 regular season. Despite winning only three games outright, Detroit went 11-6 against the spread.

As a result, both teams have quarterbacks who could be overwhelmed by the arsenal of weapons at their disposal. The Lions drafted Alabama WR Jameson Williams this offseason and signed DJ Chark.

They join Tight, Amon-Ra St. Brown, end T.J. Hockenson, and running back D’Andre Swift as possible targets for Jared Goff.

WR A.J. Brown (via trade from Tennessee) joined WR DeVonta Smith and TE Dallas Goedert in Philly. Will Jalen Hurts flourish or flounder?

  • Best Bet – Lions +4 at -110 with DraftKings

For the first time in 2022, these two long-time rivals are going head-to-head. This time, their historical roles are reversed.

The Bengals are defending their AFC North title and AFC championship title. Last season, QB Joe Burrow took a beating but nearly won the Super Bowl in just his second season.

The Bengals strengthened their offensive line to ensure Burrow would be ambulatory at age 30. The Steelers, meanwhile, will begin the season without QB Ben Roethlisberger for the first time since 2003.

Right now, their starting QB is . . . to be clinched between rookie Kenny Pickett out of Pitt and veteran journeyman Mitch Trubisky.

  • Best Bet: Bengals -6.5 at -110 with DraftKings
New Orleans Saints at Atlanta Falcons – 1 p.m. (FOX)

This game will feature one of the ten new head coaches in the NFL this season. After Sean Payton resigned, Dennis Allen, the former Raiders head coach, and Saints DC, is now the new head coach in New Orleans.

Saints quarterback Jameis Winston is back as the starter. Winston tore his ACL during the Saints’ win over Tampa Bay last Halloween.

Indy acquired Matt Ryan from the Falcons after 14 seasons in Atlanta. Marcus Mariota is the new starting QB in Atlanta.

  • Best Bet – Under 42 points at -110 with DraftKings
Jacksonville Jaguars at Washington Commanders – 1 p.m. (CBS)

Following the Urban Meyer Error, Doug Pederson should bring stability, leadership, and maturity to the Jaguars organization.

In the last two NFL drafts, the Jaguars have taken first. In free agency, the Jaguars brought in tight end Evan Engram from the Giants, linebacker Foye Oluokun from the Falcons, and CB Darious Williams from the Rams.

Trevor Lawrence could have the same kind of sophomore success as Burrow did. The Commanders finally have a name.

  • Best Bet – Jaguars +4 at -110 with DraftKings
San Francisco 49ers at Chicago Bears – 1 p.m. (Fox)

As of this writing, the 49ers, Deebo Samuel, and Jimmy Garoppolo remain stuck together. Matt Eberfus was hired as the Bears’ head coach.

New offensive and defensive coordinators were brought in. The 49ers blew a 10-point lead to the Rams in the NFC title game. Jimmy G. and Samuel were named in multiple trade rumors yet remain.

As Garoppolo continues to heal from offseason shoulder surgery, he could be moved once he is fully healthy.

  • Best Bet – Under 42.5 points at -110 with DraftKings
Indianapolis Colts at Houston Texans – 1 p.m. (CBS)

This is the biggest game in Week 1. If the Colts win, they could challenge for the AFC title. The Texans are on their way to landing the No. 1 pick in the draft.

It is Matt Ryan’s first start for the Colts against what may be the worst team in the conference, if not the entire league. After dumping David Culley, the Texans hired Lovie Smith as their head coach.

The Colts are well-positioned to contend in the AFC South. A grand jury declined to indict Watson in connection with multiple civil sexual assault allegations, so the Texans shipped Watson to the Browns. FOR NOW, second-year QB Davis Mills has emerged as the starter in Houston.

  • Best Bet – Colts -7.5 at -110 with DraftKings
New England Patriots at Miami Dolphins – 1 p.m. (CBS)

Mike McDaniel makes his NFL debut against Bill Belichick, who has eight Super Bowl rings and 321 wins in his career as a head coach.

Nobody knows who will call the plays, but the Patriots’ second-year QB has a new toy in former Dolphins WR DeVante Parker. The Dolphins swept New England last year.

However, the Patriots have historically had success when they play in Miami early in the season. The Dolphins are all-in with Tua Tagovailoa at QB. Together with the acquisition of Tyreek Hill from the Chiefs, that stability should help.

This offseason, the Dolphins were rattled when fired coach Brian Flores filed a racial discrimination lawsuit against the team and NFL, alleging that owner Stephen Ross offered him extra money if the team lost games in 2019.

Belichick should have an advantage here since he has four months to prepare.

Best Bet – Patriots +3 at -110 with DraftKings

Cleveland Browns at Carolina Panthers – 1 p.m. (CBS)

Deshaun Watson is the future of the Browns, even though his playing status is uncertain, as the Browns have guaranteed him $200 million.

Watson may not be guilty from a criminal standpoint, but he could still appear on the Commissioner’s Exemption List. Watson sat out last season with Houston.

Panthers are another underdog in Week 1, largely due to quarterback uncertainty. By default, Sam Darnold is starting.

In the draft’s third round, the Panthers selected Ole Miss quarterback Matt Carroll, eschewing a potential trade for Cleveland’s Baker Mayfield.

  • Best Bet – Over 42.5 points at -110 with DraftKings
Green Bay Packers at Minnesota Vikings – 4:25 p.m. (FOX)

Fox’s new lead NFL announcer Kevin Burkhardt will make his debut in this game. Aaron Rodgers, the two-time defending NFL MVP, is back.

But A-Rod’s favorite target Davante Adams hit the jackpot with a trade to the Las Vegas Raiders. Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon still play for the Packers.

As a slight home underdog, the Vikings will be breaking in a new coach in Kevin O’Connell. Matt LaFleur has won 39 of his first 49 games as an NFL head coach.

  • Best Bet – Packers -1.5 at -110 with DraftKings
New York Giants at Tennessee Titans – 4:25 p.m. (FOX)

Former Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll has been hired as Giants head coach. Daboll is sticking with Daniel Jones at QB.

Titans finished with the best record in the AFC but lost 19-16 to Cincinnati in the divisional round after QB Ryan Tannehill threw three interceptions.

Derrick Henry remains the Titans’ offensive centerpiece. The game looks to be ugly and low-scoring.

  • Best Bet – Under 44 Points at -110 with DraftKings
Las Vegas Raiders at LA Chargers – 4:25 p.m. (CBS)

This season’s AFC West is loaded. With the hiring of Josh McDaniels as their new head coach, the Raiders snapped up the former Patriots offensive coordinator.

Former Fresno State teammate Adams is Derek Carr’s new No. 1 target. In free agency, the Raiders also added Chandler Jones, Demarcus Robinson, and Bilal Nichols.

The chargers return most of their key players and look to take the next step and reach the postseason. The total seems a bit high for Week 1, but we’re going with the Silver and Black on the road.

  • Best Bet – Raiders +4 at -110 with DraftKings
Kansas City Chiefs at Arizona Cardinals, 4:25 p.m. (CBS)

Tyreek Hill no longer awaits Patrick Mahomes II’s long throws. Marquez Valdes-Scantling and JuJu Smith-Schuster will try to compensate for Hill’s loss.

The Cardinals have been grappling with Kyler Murray in the offseason, whose agent sent a letter asking all but for trade.

The cooler heads have prevailed, and Murray appears to be staying in Arizona for the foreseeable future. Last year, the Chiefs were 4-15 ATS in their previous 19 games.

  • Best Bet – Under 53 points at -110 with DraftKings
Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Dallas Cowboys – 8:25 p.m. (NBC)

The Buccaneers won 31-29 on a last-season field goal to start the 2021 season at Tampa Bay. After a brief retirement, Brady is back with the Buccaneers, along with most other top players.

Gronkowski is expected to return to the tight end position before the season begins.

The Cowboys are also mostly intact. For the Cowboys, keeping Dak Prescott healthy remains their biggest challenge.

It’s not often the Cowboys are underdogs at home. Dallas had the best ATS record in the NFL last year, going 13-5, including the playoffs.

Despite winning 14 games, the Bucs captured significant cash from the betting public and covered just ten times.

  • Best Bet – Cowboys +2.5 at -110 with DraftKings

Monday, Sept. 12

Denver Broncos at Seattle Seahawks – 8:15 p.m. (ABC/ESPN)

The game marks the Monday Night Football debut of Joe Buck and Troy Aikman, who left Fox to join ABC/ESPN.

The storyline of Russell Wilson’s homecoming will also dominate this game. The Broncos and Seahawks traded quarterbacks in the offseason, with Wilson leaving Seattle after 11 seasons. The Seahawks’ win over/under is just 6 games.

The Broncos are good on both sides of the ball. The Broncos, too, hired former Green Back QB coach Nathaniel Hackett in the offseason to replace Vic Fangio.

  • Best Bet – Broncos -4 at -110 with DraftKings
