The wait for competitive sailing fans is finally over, as the 470 World Championship is finally knocking at the door. The latest international sailing competition iteration will be in Israel on October 21st. The 470 World Championship is a popular international sailing championship exclusively using the 470 sailboat class. It first launched in 1970 under the authorization of the International 470 Class Association and the International Sailing Federation. Currently, the event is a part of the ISAF Sailing World Championships.
The annual sailing event was canceled in 2020 due to covid pandemic. The following year, it made its return to Portugal. The Swedish team of Anton Dahlberg and Fredrik Bergstrom won the men’s event. At the same time, the women’s event was won by the Spanish team consisting of Silvia Mas and Patricia Cantero.
The 2022 iteration of the event will be held in Israel. It will feature an opening series and a medal race. For the qualifying series, 5 races are scheduled for each event. While for the final series, 6 races are scheduled for each event. Additionally, the event will also feature a single series.

How to Watch the 470 World Championship Online and on TV
The 470 World Championship sailing has no confirmed television distributor. As a result, the event will not be broadcast on television.
The official World Sailing YouTube channel, World Sailing TV, will live stream the 470 World Championship qualifying matches and final series. Additionally, individual competitors are given the right to record and show their situation throughout the competition.
Prize Money
While the officials have confirmed that the top 10 leading teams in the leaderboard will be given prize money in the championship, the individual prize money allocation chart has yet to be released. Furthermore, the first crews on the final official ranking list will be dubbed “470 Class Mixed World Champions.” The top three teams will be given gold, silver, and bronze medals as in previous years.
