The 49er World Championships are international sailing regattas. The International Sailing Federation organizes the event. It was established in 1997.
About 49er Worlds 2022
The 49er FX class has been a part of the program since 2013. The 49er and 49er FX have been Olympic classes since 2000 and 2016.
This year the event is scheduled to take place from August 31 to September 5 in Nova Scotia, Canada. The event will be organized in association with World Sailing Class Association.
The last edition was held in 2021 at Wudam Al Sahil. Dutch sailors— Bart Lambriex and Floris van de Werken won gold medals, while Germany’s Tim Fischer and Fabian Graf won silvers. Danish sailors— Frederik Rask and Jakob Precht Jensen won Bronze medals.
In the event’s history, Peter Burling and Blair Tuke, two fellow New Zealander sailors, hold the glory of winning eight medals— six golds and two silvers. This is the most in history. On the other hand, Martine Grael and Kahena Kunze, two fellow Brazilians, have won five gold medals and four silvers in the 49er FX class. As a nation, Australia has won the most 7 gold medals so far.

The 49er World Championships 2022 is taking place at the waters of St. Margarets Bay in Nova Scotia, Canada. The venue has hosted several national and international sailing events over the years. The clean waters and consistent solid winds make it a superb venue for the 49er Worlds.
