Preview
Rafael José de Brito is back in action after claiming first place in his maiden PBR event in Eugene, Oregon, last week. He not only moved up the rankings by 137.5 points to claim the fifth position, but he also passed Daniel Keeping to take the lead in the 2023 Rookie of the Year race.
One of the top riders in the PBR Team Series’ inaugural season, the 2022 Texas Rattler began the weekend on Reba McEntire’s The Hammer and earned 87 points before qualifying for the championship round with an 88-point ride on All Shook Up. Black Gold was Brito’s final dance partner for the night, and it was a risky choice because, in 13 career outings, the animal athlete had never let an opponent ride for longer than six seconds.
However, Brito’s risk paid off as he survived the eighth and scored a 91-point ride to win his first Unleash The Beast buckle in front of the Eugene fans. In the 2022 Team Series and at the start of the 2023 UTB season, when he resumed his premier series career by going 4-for-4, including a tremendous 90.75-point blowout on Mike’s Motive, Brito appears to be back in the form he displayed for the Rattlers. He will now face Ho-Pac on Saturday night in Los Angeles in a Round 1 bout.
