Casper Ruud made a flying start in the quarter-finals against Berrettini to take a 5-0 lead. Berrettini tried to fight back before Ruud took the first set by 6-1. The Norwegian again dominated his opponent in the second set to jump quickly to 5-1. Berrettini got a couple of breaks but gave away the set by 4-6.
In the third set, Berrettini improved his game to make it 5-3 and serve for the set. Ruud, however, held back his opponent to win the set in a tie-break.
Elsewhere, World No. 31 Karen Khachanov is coming off a massive victory over the in-form Aussie and Medvedev-slayer Nick Kyrgios. He beat Kyrgios in an exciting five-set match by 7-5, 4-6, 7-5, 6 (3)-7, and 6-4 sets. It was an evenly matched battle. Khachanov started the deciding set with a break and maintained that to finish it 6-4 to take the match.
Now, the Russian will play his maiden Grand Slam semi-final with the final on the horizon.
Head-to-Head
Casper Ruud and Karen Khachanov went head-to-head once, with the Norwegian winning by three sets at the 2020 Italian Open.
Ruud vs Khachanov Prediction
Ruud was terrific in his quarter-final win over Matteo Berrettini. He dominated the match from the very beginning to win the match by straight sets. With a spot in the final on the line, the Norwegian will put his best foot forward.
The same goes for World No. 31 Khachanov. The Russian did an excellent job to see off the in-form Aussie Nick Kyrgios. He battled toe-to-toe with consistency to win the match in five sets. He will be gunning to reach his maiden Grand Slam final.
Khachanov’s big serves could cause a lot of trouble for World No. 7. He hit 89 aces in the tournament, with 30 in the previous round. On the other hand, Ruud has been amazing in both offense and defense. His consistency could cause trouble for the Russian.
It’s going to be the maiden Grand Slam semi-final for Khachanov. Nerves could get the better of him against the 5th seed Ruud. We predict Ruud will get the job done in four sets.
