The Citi Open 2022 has returned to its traditional venue at Rock Creek Park in Washington DC. It will be the 53rd edition for men and the 10th edition for women at the event also known as the Washington Open. The Citi Open in Washington will feature ATP 500 and WTA 250 this year. It will be the first WTA 250 event for women since 2019. Here we have everything about the Citi Open 2022, when and where, top seeds, draws, schedules, and how to watch.

When and Where is the Citi Open 2022?

The Citi Open 2022 is already in full swing, starting from Monday, 1 August. It will wrap up with the final on Sunday, 7 August. The men’s and women’s quarter-finals and semifinals will be played on 5th and 6th August. The matches will take place at the outside hard courts of Rock Creek Park, Washington DC.

Players, Top Seeds, Main Draw for the ATP 500 and WTA 250

The action is already on the tennis courts in Washington. The First Round matches have been underway in the ATP 500 and WTA 250 categories.

In the absence of the defending champion Jannik Sinner, World No. 8 Andrey Rublev will play as the top seed in the men’s singles. He will face Britain’s Jack Draper in the Second Round. Rublev could clash with Denis Shapovalov (6th seed) and Holger Rune (9th seed) in the Third Round. Taylor Fritz (3rd) and Reilly Opelka (4th) are the top-seeded Americans in men’s singles. T Fritz will take on Australian A Popyrin while Opelka will face Denis Kudla in the Second Round.

Hubert Hurkacz (2nd seed)  and Reilly Opelka are the favorites at the bottom half of the draw. Moreover, the former world no. 1 Andy Murray’s run is already over following a First Round defeat against Mikael Ymer.

The 2019 Champion and Wimbledon 2022 Finalist Nick Kyrgios will also take part. He will play the First Round against the American Marcos Giron.

WTA 250

The 10th edition of the WTA Washington will feature as many as six Grand Slam winners in the main draw. The defending champion and American No. 1 Jessica Pegula will be the top seed. She has defeated fellow American Hailey Baptiste by 6-2, 6-2 sets to begin her campaign. Pegula will face Australia’s Daria Saville for a spot in the quarter-finals. 

The U.S Open Champion Britain’s Emma Raducanu (2nd seed) will take on the American Louisa Chirico in the First Round. Simona Halep and Victoria Azarenka are the 3rd and 4th seed respectively. The Grand Slam winners Emma Raducanu (2nd) and Victoria Azarenka (4th) could collide at the bottom half of the draw.

Seven-times Grand Slam winner Venus Williams made her return in the women’s singles. However, she lost to Canada’s Rebecca Mariano by 6-4, 1-6, 4-6 sets in the First Round.

Citi Open 2022 Schedule:

The main draw of the Citi Open 2022 will commence on Monday, 1 August 2022, and wrap up with the final on Sunday, August 7. The quarter-finals and semifinals will be played on the 5th and 6th of August. We will find the men’s and women’s singles champions on Sunday, 7 August.
